The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is the Rocky Mountain region’s leading resource for informal science education. Located in the heart of Denver City Park, and neighbor to the Denver Zoo, the Museum offers a variety of exhibitions, programs, and activities that help Museum visitors experience the natural wonders of Colorado and our natural world. Students and teachers are served by Museum both on-site and in the classroom each year. The Museum houses more than 4.1 million artifacts and specimens in its collections from around the world. 

It’s an exciting time for the Museum as we launch our strategic planning process to continue to advance our mission. We are building on our already solid foundation with a strong vision and solid strategy to recreate and redefine how we engage our community that loves, understands, and protects our natural world. The Museum has over 500 employees in a variety of departments, from science and facilities to accounting and food services. We are open 7 days per week and 364 days per year. Each department has unique needs with multiple shifts, hybrid or deskless teams and part-time employees.

As the HR Manager, you'll be the heart of our museum's people operations, ensuring our diverse workforce thrives. From managing recruitment and talent acquisition to fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation to employee relations and leave management, your role will be pivotal in shaping our museum's future.

Job Class: Full Time
Hiring Range: $95,000 - $110,000/year 
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday. Hybrid - Up to 2 days remote after 6 months.
Direct Reports: 3. This position has supervisory responsibilities for the HR Generalists and HR Coordinator.

Essential Duties

  • Managing the daily HR operations and HR service delivery to managers and employees.  
  • Manages recruitment, and employee relations functions.  
  • Develop and implement strategies for employee engagement and retention. 
  • Advise and support managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. 
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the museum. 
  • Collaborate with leadership to align HR strategies with organizational goals. 
  • Acts as a strategic partner by working collaboratively, developing organizational capability, utilizing data and insights, and providing thought leadership. 
  • Participates in annual benefit renewals process and biennial comprehensive compensation analyses.   
  • Partners with other HR specialists in the areas benefits, compensation, performance management and learning and development for customer questions and issues. 

 

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; or equivalent work experience can be substituted.
  • 5 years’ experience as a Human Resources generalist with thorough knowledge of HR disciplines (employee relations, leave management, performance management, policy administration, workforce planning, compensation and benefits) required. 
  • 3 years’ experience supervising staff or leading teams required.

Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have:

  • Proven experience as an HR leader. 
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices and employment law. 
  • Ability to work effectively with people who are experiencing distress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to show understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy and concern for all staff and the ability to remain professional while working to resolve issues quickly and effectively. 
  • Strong organizational abilities to create to efficient workflows and improve productivity .
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Solid understanding of Processes in leading and implementing change management initiatives.
