POSITION SUMMARY
:

Assist administrative and clinical team members by performing a variety of clerical and clinical duties to ensure departmental function within the DHR Health Institute for Research and Development as well as departmental compliance in accordance with State and Federal regulations.  Such duties include but are not limited to: triage patients, conduct vital assessment for clinical trial participants, phlebotomy activities, provides injections, sample processing, sample shipping, data entry and help with patient registration for clinical trials.

 

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

      High School graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferred. 

      Completion of CNA program, Medical Assistant Program, PCA or like program preferred.

      Phlebotomy certified.

      Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. 

      Good written and verbal communication skills required.

      Some evening or weekend work will be required.

      Bilingual – English/Spanish.

      BLS Certification required.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE­:

      One (1) year of related experience.

      Skill in establishing a balanced perspective on mission effectiveness and business results is critical.

      Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

      Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.  Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.

      Reviews progress notes prior to patients scheduled visit to ensure that all required information for visit has been received (lab work, ultrasound, FNA’s, any and all procedure reports ordered)

      Cleans and prepares exam room prior to bringing patient in the room, keeps the rooms neat and clean.

      Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies

      Greets patient by name and escorts patients through the care process, identifies self and explains role during visit

      Interviews patients to obtain medical information, medication history, and measures their vital signs, weight and height and records in patient chart

      Assist Practitioner with physical exams, dressings and any other tasks ordered by physician

      Performs EKG’s and other procedures as determined by the Practitioners

      Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician

      Explain treatment procedures, medications, diet and physicians’ instructions to patients

      Arranges scheduling of appointments for referrals and procedures ordered by the Practitioners,

      Authorize drug refill, provide prescription information to pharmacies and calls insurance company for prior authorization on medications ordered by Practitioner

      Ensures Practitioner completes documentation and Progress Notes are forwarded to referring Physicians by the end of day of scheduled appointment

      Cleans and restocks exam rooms; clinical, and educational materials

      Checks medical supplies and medication samples for expiration dates and documents in logs

      Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens and prepare them for testing

      Conduct research-protocol specific duties as indicated by Practitioner, Study Coordinator or Principal Investigator.

      Other duties as assigned.
