POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) works under the direction of the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Sr. VP of Medical Education (SVPME). He/she will assist the DIO in directing and managing the administration of the office, finances, personnel, administrative functions, and accreditation activities. This position will act on issues regulated by accreditation requirements, established policies and procedures and on instructions of the DIO or CAO. He/she will be assisting the DIO in the oversight of GME programs and assessing, implementing, and developing new GME programs, overseeing operations and strategic planning of education functions. He/she will also be developing and managing affiliation agreements with academic partners for clinical education activities across the DHR Health System. Will act as a catalyst between departments, faculty, staff, students, Graduate Medical Education, and external entities to ensure continuity and quality of service in education.
Must have the ability to work independently with excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written and verbal, problem-solving skills, and the ability to diplomatically handle problems of a sensitive and/or confidential nature. Must have a working knowledge of the following applications: AAMC, New Innovations, ERAS, NRMP, and ACGME WebADS. Must have a thorough understanding of specialty board requirements. Must have an understanding of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation process and knowledge of the common core and specialty requirements. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the DIO and SVPME to define GME departmental performance expectations.
- In collaboration with the DIO and SVPME, explores opportunities to support the continuum of medical education in both undergraduate and graduate medical education (GME), as well as in continuing medical education (for all GME faculty) at clinical affiliates or other clinical institutions.
- Gather data, develop reports, and monitor residency assignments to support the development and review of GME programming.
- Management of GME Annual Review Process for the Institution and its programs.
- Maintains and updates critical institutional records associated with accreditation.
- Develop and implement GME “Best Practice” resources.
- Assist the DIO and SVPME with the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services structured to achieve high-quality outcomes for residency and fellowship programs.
- Assist the DIO and SVPME with the design and implementation of various professional development activities for faculty and staff to support the leaders of the ACGME-accredited, GME programs thereby assisting them in meeting their goals as well as internal and external benchmarks for excellence.
- Assist the DIO and SVPME with GME expansion.
- Assist in the development of successful wellbeing programs for the GME trainees.
- Ensures all activities and institutional/program requirements for sponsoring institution and residency programs are met through the ACGME, Graduation Medical Education policies, and specialty boards.
- Develops strategies consistent with the DHR Health continuous quality improvement program.
- Leads and supervises office personnel, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; provides performance management feedback as appropriate.
- Develops and establishes operating goals, policies, and procedures as appropriate; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates strategic assessment programs, projects, and activities.
- Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
- Develops and produces publications and materials related to the GME accreditation compliance, outcomes assessment, and program evaluation efforts.
- Identifies educational priorities, goals and strategies to improve the educational enterprise and enhance the learning environment.
- Assists Program Directors with managing program accreditation of ACGME accredited programs.
- Participates in DHR Health committees to establish educational program services and administrative plans and policies.
- Advise and consult with DIO on strategic and operational planning issues.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
- Perform other duties as required.
POSITION EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred
- Prefer business or education degree
- A minimum of 5 years of management experience in a university, medical school, or complex academic health center environment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in GME and training preferably in an academic environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communications skills required

- Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing Graduate Medical Education.
- Experience in working with accreditation agencies such as ACGME, etc.
- Experience in developing and managing GME programs.
- Evidence of passion for healthcare research and health professional education and training.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans in clinical education and training.
