Parts Manager
Description
Position Overview
The Parts Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the dealership's parts department operations. This includes managing inventory, overseeing parts staff, coordinating with service and sales teams, and ensuring accurate parts distribution and exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, analytical, and experienced in automotive parts operations with a strong focus on team leadership and process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the parts department team.
- Create staffing plans, schedules, and development goals for department personnel.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals and performance.
- Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Customer Service & Sales:
- Ensure all customer inquiries retail, wholesale, and internal are handled professionally and promptly.
- Collaborate with the service department to supply necessary parts for repairs.
- Implement strategies to improve parts sales, including upselling and promotional initiatives.
- Resolve escalated customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Inventory & Financial Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory levels, conduct cycle counts, and oversee stock ordering.
- Monitor and manage parts obsolescence and aging inventory.
- Track and reconcile daily gross sales, shortages, and warranty returns.
- Submit and analyze monthly reports to evaluate department performance.
Operational Excellence:
- Coordinate with service and sales departments to ensure seamless interdepartmental operations.
- Monitor and control expenses in accordance with department budgets.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant parts storage area.
- Ensure the department adheres to all safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an automotive parts department, including supervisory experience.
- Must possess a valid Operator Driver License and be insurable.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in dealership management systems (CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of automotive parts operations, inventory controls, and parts marketing.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets and analyze departmental financials.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the parts area.
- Comfortable working in warehouse/shop environments with temperature variations.
