Concrete Finisher

Craft - Laborers Watford City, North Dakota


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly 

Position Summary:

The Concrete Finisher reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for the variety of tasks involved in concrete construction. The incumbent is highly skilled and capable of manual labor including; finishing, forming, stripping, and tying rebar and foundation preparation.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sets concrete forms for; footings, walls, piers, curbs, steps and slabs
  • Rebar cutting, bending, layout and tying
  • Sets grades with the use of laser levels, bubble levels, and string lines 
  • Uses finishing tools to include, but not limited to; both mechanical and manual screen systems, bull floats, fresnos, power trowels, hand floats, steel trowels, edgers, and brooms 
  • Responsible for achieving the following finishes; flat and level footings and walls, hard trowel (interior smooth finish) and broom finish (exterior)
  • Safely operate power tools such as: Skil saw, grinder, rotary hammer, and power chisels

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or Equivalent 
  • Current and valid Drivers License with clean driving record

Required Education, Training and Certificates:

  • OSHA 10 certificate or ability to obtain upon hire
  • H2S certificate or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Other equivalencies related to Concrete or other program from an accredited vocational school
  • Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge and understanding of concrete placement in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of general carpentry 
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the different type of tools involved in construction
  • Knowledge of design, principles, and technical plans such as blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra and its applications commensurate to the requirements of the job
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to materials and equipment use and operation
  • Active listening skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Ability to use time efficiently in order to complete projects/assignments on time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to handle stress and possess positive attitude even in difficult or challenging situations
