FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Regular 

Position Summary:

The Journeyman Insulator reports directly to the Insulator Foreman and is responsible for guiding, training and leading Insulator Helpers while performing insulation work with mechanical, industrial, commercial and/or cryogenics. The incumbent will apply appropriate insulation techniques based on the standards or needs of the project, working from blueprints and specifications with a wide variety of materials such as fiberglass, cork, calcium silicate, foamglass, expanded silicate, Styrofoam, extruded foam plastics and spray insulations. 
Duties include, but are not limited to; 
  • Lead, guide and train Insulator Helpers
  • Understand blueprints and sketches
  • Measure, shape and cut materials to specified measurements
  • Insulate, cover, wrap, staple, glue, and fit insulating materials 
  • Finish insulation using sealants, tape, cement and metals 
All work is conducted in accordance with applicable quality, health, safety and environmental regulations as well as local, city, state, federal and all Company and Client standards. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or Equivalent 
  • Valid Drivers License with clean driving record 
  • One (5) year Insulating experience 
  • Two (2) years supervisory or lead role experience, preferred 

Required Education, Training and Certificates:

  • OSHA 10, or ability to obtain upon hire
  • H2S, or ability to obtain upon hire

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general insulation process and methods
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in insulation
  • Knowledge of design, principles and technical plans such as blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to materials and equipment used and operation
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use time efficiently in order to complete projects/assignments on time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment 
  • Ability to handle stress and possess positive attitude even in difficult or challenging situations

Visual Acuity: must be adequate to perform all required Job Description tasks in a safe manner. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs on occasion. Work is usually done outside at a job site/field site that may have inclement weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.
