POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Payroll Administrator

CLASSIFICATION: Professional 1

SALARY: $56,000 - $62,000 per year

FLSA:  Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Finance

LOCATION: Washington, DC

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Payroll and Database Administration

 POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Administrator performs a variety of accounting duties related to timesheet collection and payroll processing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Timesheet Collection

  • Create employee records within the time and attendance system based upon information provided by the HR Department
  • Train new employees on completion of timesheets and time-off requests within the time and attendance system
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all staff timesheet and time-off request related questions
  • Complete the collection of all timesheets for bi-weekly payroll
  • Review all approved timesheets for accuracy, work with employees on corrections as necessary
  • Download timesheet information for integration into the payroll database

Payroll Processing

  • Create employee records within the payroll database based upon information provided by the HR Department
  • Follow up on all required documentation for timely set up of employee records within the payroll database
  • Complete all data entry into the payroll database for bi-weekly payroll based upon data provided by the HR department
  • Complete the bi-weekly payroll process within the payroll database
  • Submit the approved payroll to third-party payroll company for processing

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent

Experience: 2 years of relevant experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities for Payroll Administrator

  • Knowledge of traditional accounting practices
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the account/subaccount relationships
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting software, database, and spreadsheet and word processing tools
  • Well-organized with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
