POSITION SUMMARY 
Defenders of Wildlife’s 10-week summer internship program will provide interns with in-depth exposure to Defenders’ conservation work, the opportunity to acquire specific skills needed to pursue their professional goals, the opportunity to engage in hands-on research/projects in their field of study, and the opportunity to build professional networks. The program will also provide students with cross-disciplinary exposure, one-to-one mentor matching, and peer-to-peer support.  
The Inclusion & Belonging (I&B) Intern will support the development, coordination, and execution of culture-related initiatives throughout Defenders. Reporting to the Vice President of Inclusion & Belonging, the intern will assist in implementing I&B strategies, aid in project administration, and manage communications related to I&B programs. This position offers hands-on experience in promoting a culture of inclusion, and belonging, and is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in a career in I&B.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of I&B training sessions, workshops, and webinars.
  • Support the I&B team in monitoring I&B -related metrics, tracking progress, and contributing to reports on program effectiveness.
  • Participate in organizing I&B events, including meetings, community outreach programs, and employee resource group activities.
  • Aid in creating, updating, and maintaining I&B content for newsletters, reports, and external PR.
  • Provide administrative support for I&B initiatives, including scheduling, preparing materials, and record maintenance.
  • Support budget management by tracking I&B expenses and assisting with financial documentation.
  • Help coordinate internship orientation activities.
  • Assist with research on best practices to support continuous improvement in policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS 
Education: Current undergraduate student at an accredited 2 or 4-year institution. 
Experience: Commitment to or demonstrated interest in wildlife conservation and environmental work; commitment to or demonstrated interest in workforce and culture efforts in a conservation organization. 
Requirements: 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Must be able to commit to the full 10-week term of the program 
  • Strong writing, research, and verbal communication skills
