About this role: 

We are looking for a Research and Development Lab Technician that gets fired up by the thought of pushing the boundaries in coffee innovation. Reporting to the Director of Research and Development, you will support the Product Development Manager and work collaboratively with the marketing, creative, manufacturing and procurement teams to take new product ideas from conception through commercialization. You will be involved in all aspects of the new product development lifecycle, including creation of benchtop samples through overseeing scale-up trials, on timelines that are aggressive yet achievable. 

  • Preparation of benchtop samples including, but not limited to, flavored coffee prototypes, new coffee blends
  • Preparation of lab tastings
  • Specification creation and maintenance
  • Support scale-up trials at internal and external manufacturing facilities
  • R&D lead on low complexity SG projects
  • Ongoing shelf-life testing
  • General administrative team support: sample shipments, organization, inventorying of lab supplies, PO requests
  • Trend monitoring and report out
  • Brewing support for sales/marketing events
  • Maintenance of R&D Product Briefs
  • Review of co-man quality data to ensure specification adherence for new products
  • Perform necessary finished product quality checks at time of new product start-up
  • On-site support for trials at co-man locations
  • Create design of experiments to support new product development

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • BS in Food Science or a related degree preferred
  • Minimum 1 year working in a laboratory environment
  • Understanding of the scientific process with the ability to build and design experiments
  • Understanding of sensory science
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications
  • Ability to work on-site Monday-Thursday
