About the Role
The Healthcare Consulting Associate Director - Reimbursement leads reimbursement consulting engagements for hospitals, physician groups, and other healthcare providers. This role is responsible for managing client engagements from planning through execution, overseeing reimbursement analyses, advising clients on reimbursement strategy, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality work.
The Associate Director serves as a trusted advisor to clients while leading project teams, mentoring consultants, and collaborating with firm leadership to strengthen the Healthcare Consulting practice. This position requires a combination of technical reimbursement expertise, project management, relationship management, and leadership skills to deliver exceptional client service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Technical
Definition: your specialized knowledge & expertise associated with the work you perform for/with clients (note: clients may be internal to Dean Dorton).
- Lead reimbursement consulting engagements from planning through completion while managing project scope, timelines, deliverables, and client expectations.
- Perform and review Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement analyses, including cost reports, reimbursement modeling, payment optimization, and regulatory compliance.
- Analyze reimbursement methodologies and identify opportunities to improve reimbursement outcomes and financial performance.
- Interpret CMS regulations, payer guidance, and reimbursement policies to provide practical recommendations to clients.
- Prepare and present reimbursement findings, financial analyses, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
- Review supporting analyses and workpapers to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Identify reimbursement risks and proactively develop solutions to mitigate financial exposure.
- Monitor reimbursement trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments while translating complex guidance into actionable client recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary consulting teams to provide integrated solutions for healthcare clients.

- Support business development efforts through proposal development, client presentations, and relationship building.
- Assist with practice growth by identifying new service opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.
- Develop internal reimbursement methodologies, tools, templates, and best practices.
- Create training materials and share technical expertise with team members.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring new team members.
- Represent Dean Dorton at healthcare conferences, professional associations, and networking events.
- Participate in firm initiatives, committees, and culture-building activities.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, public health, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare consulting or healthcare operations.
- CPA preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading projects, managing teams, and overseeing client engagements.
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, revenue cycle, payer relations, and regulatory environments.
- Experience working with physician practices, hospitals, or multi-specialty groups.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to executives and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Experience mentoring or managing consulting or operational staff preferred.

Travel: Travel to Dean Dorton offices, client sites, or industry conferences may be required.
