About the Role

The Assurance Senior Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and overseeing assurance engagements within the team. They are responsible for providing technical expertise, managing day- to-day operations, and contributing to firm initiatives. This role involves a blend of charge and non- charge responsibilities.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently lead and oversee all aspects of assurance engagements and risk assessments, including budgeting and scheduling, client fee discussions, executing processes and procedures, championing team members, prioritizing tasks, and managing internal and external deadlines.
  • Review workpapers and financial statements, preparing assurance files and binders for assurance director review.
  • Establish yourself as a main point of contact for client relationships and manage the relationships by proactively anticipating and addressing client needs and advocating for firm services (including cross-selling).
  • Create and execute assurance plans, including designing of appropriate tests, identifying scope, and staff engagements using proper leveraging.
  • Display proficient technical knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and assurance methodologies, ensuring adherence of these within client engagements.
  • Coordinate with engagement teams to ensure timely completion of tasks to meet client expectations and deadlines.
  • Specialize in industries or niches and begin providing subject matter expertise and delivering industry team education.
  • Stay up to date on technical updates and industry trends, sharing relevant information and insights with internal team members and external clients.
  • Train, develop, and mentor staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment. Be a champion for firm culture and core values.

  • Independently research technical topics and questions to support clients and resolve engagement issues.
  • Continue building technical expertise, leadership skills, and/or client management capabilities, seeking opportunities for external training as needed.
  • Communicate effectively, setting clear expectations and responsibilities for engagement teams and clients.
  • Participate in the performance assessment of team members on an ongoing and annual basis.
  • Utilize strong relationship management skills to build rapport with internal team members and external stakeholders.
  • Adhere to firm policies while consistently completing firm administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing, and new client proposals.
  • Maintain compliance of assurance continuing education requirements (e.g., Yellow Book, EBP).
  • Meet productivity goals.
  • Participate in firm-sponsored events and activities.
  • Serve and lead assurance team and firm non-charge activities, such as:
    • Recruiting activities, including interviewing, evaluating candidates, and participating in hiring decisions.
    • Developing training materials and leading training sessions.
    • Serving as a Career Advisor to assurance team members, monitoring team member performance, providing feedback, and facilitating growth opportunities.
    • Leading an internal committee or initiative.
    • Spearheading business development efforts, including attending industry events, networking with potential clients, and presenting technical topics.
    • Engaging in local community activities by participating in annual volunteer events or serving as a member of an external board/committee.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Six to seven years of experience in an assurance or accounting related role, including at least two years of experience as an assurance manager or equivalent role.
  • CPA licensure required.
  • Other certifications demonstrating specialization (e.g., Certified Internal Auditor) may be required.
