About the Team
Dean Dorton's outsourced accounting team serves as a critical component to the financial success of our clients. Our team partners with organizations to serve as their CFO, controller, and/or accounting team – allowing clients to focus on other key business processes integral to their success.
By offering cloud-based and real-time financial data to our clients, we translate complex financial information into meaningful advice including visualizations of the precise metrics that matter to investors, lenders, executives, and department leaders. This provides our clients with the data they need to make quicker strategic business decisions with greater control over their cash flow.
About the Role
The Accounts Payable Clerk supports the Accounting and Financial Outsourcing (AFO) team by performing day-to-day accounts payable functions for assigned clients. This role ensures vendor bills are processed accurately and timely while maintaining organized financial records and supporting the overall accounting workflow.
Working closely with AFO consultants and managers, the Accounts Payable Clerk helps maintain accurate financial data by managing invoice entry, payment processing, and vendor communication. This role plays an important part in supporting the month-end close process and ensuring client accounting records remain complete and reliable.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed financial work, maintaining organized records, and supporting a team environment while building foundational accounting experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Technical
Definition: your specialized knowledge & expertise associated with the work you perform for/with clients (note: clients may be internal to Dean Dorton).
- Process vendor bills accurately and in a timely manner for assigned clients.
- Review bills and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, appropriate coding, and approval before payment.
- Enter accounts payable transactions into client accounting systems.
- Assist with payment processing including electronic payments, checks, and vendor payment scheduling.
- Maintain organized and accurate accounts payable records and documentation.
- Assist with vendor account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Support the month-end close process by ensuring accounts payable transactions are recorded correctly.
- Communicate with vendors and internal team members regarding invoice status or payment questions.

Experience & Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Three plus years of experience in an accounts payable role.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Working experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
