Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Operations and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, the Vice President of Childcare and Camping Services provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Camp Kern and the Childcare Branch. This position ensures high-quality, mission-driven service delivery aligned with YMCA core values and the Association’s strategic plan.
The Vice President directly supervises the Executive Director of Camp Kern and the Executive Director of Childcare Services, providing visionary leadership in program development, financial sustainability, board engagement, fundraising, staff development, community partnerships, and regulatory compliance. The VP oversees a combined operating budget more than $12.5 million and leads efforts to achieve annual and capital campaign fundraising.
This position serves as a member of the Association’s senior leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

Essential Functions
- Provides direct supervision, coaching, evaluation, and leadership development to the Executive Directors of Camp Kern and Childcare Services.
- Works closely with branch leadership and volunteer boards to develop, implement, and monitor strategic plans aligned with the Association’s strategic plan.
- Oversees the development, forecasting, and management of a combined operating budget. Monitors financial performance to ensure achievement of fiscal objectives and long-term sustainability.
- Collaborates with the Vice President of Finance and branch leadership to identify, analyze, and resolve financial concerns and ensure sound fiscal management practices.
- Develops and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies in partnership with the Financial Development Director to achieve annual and capital campaign goals ($157,000 combined in 2026 and future established goals).
- Provides leadership and support to Camp and Childcare Boards and committees, strengthening volunteer engagement, governance practices, and board development.
- Ensures all childcare and camping programs operate in compliance with applicable state and local licensing requirements, including but not limited to Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY), Step Up to Quality (SUTQ), CACFP, American Camping Association (ACA), Presidium Accreditation and YMCA of the USA standards.
- Fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to enhance program quality, participant outcomes, and community impact.
- Develops and maintains strong partnerships with schools, community agencies, funders, and governmental entities to expand access to high-quality childcare and camping services.
- Oversees marketing and communication efforts in collaboration with Association leadership to effectively communicate impact and program benefits to the community.
- Supports talent development strategies including recruitment, succession planning, performance management, and leadership pipeline development within Childcare and Camping Services.
- Demonstrates caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in leadership by fostering a workplace culture that values character, inclusion, and mutual respect.
- Communicates to the Senior Vice President of Operations any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
- Serves as a member of YMCA Management Staff and supports Association-wide initiatives and campaigns.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business, Education, Nonprofit Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of progressive senior management experience in a YMCA or comparable nonprofit organization, including direct supervision of multiple levels of leadership staff.
- Proven experience overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets and achieving positive financial performance.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, fundraising, board development, and community engagement.
- Knowledge of state childcare licensing requirements and residential/day camp accreditation standards preferred.
- Strong background in volunteer development and governance practices.
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification preferred.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, insurable driver’s record according to the YMCA’s insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation for business travel.
- CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certification within 60 days of hire and kept current.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal YMCA software systems.
