Position Summary:
Responsible for assisting in development of dryland programs for all swim team practice groups. Persons in this position must closely adhere to the YMCA of the USA guidelines for competitive coaching and swimming.

Essential Functions:
- Prepares personalized programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines
- Provides positive and regular feedback to participants
- Directs questions requiring additional expertise or attention to supervisor
- Directs participants to other YMCA classes, programs, and activities
- Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Trains participants in a manner that is both demonstrative and professional.
- Watches and corrects participants when exercising in an unsafe manner.
- Educates members on appropriate and comfortable attire for exercising.
- Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Exemplifies a healthy lifestyle.
- Inspects all equipment used for safety hazards, damage or wear.
- Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
- Works directly with senior level practice groups to monitor safe techniques and promote a safe environment.
- Assists Head Coach and Lead Group Swim Team Coaches in development of dryland programs for all practice groups.
- Builds effective dryland program
- Enforces team policies such as attendance, behavior, etc.
- Keep control of behavior of swimmers at all times, and if necessary, communication behavioral issue to parents/guardians.
- Adheres to and is on time to all scheduled practices
- Keeps accurate records on each swimmer evaluating him/her at the beginning and end of the session.
- Communicates effectively to both children and their parents/ guardians.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
- Provides an emotionally secure environment for participants.
- Has the aptitude and attitude for coaching all ages and levels of physical ability.
- Gives excellent coaching instructions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A 2-year college degree in Physical Education/Exercise Science/related field or applicable experience is preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of six months or more of related fitness experience and a high level of interest in the fitness field required.
- Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and a current Lifeguard certification is recommended but not required.
- Must possess quality knowledge of competitive swimming organizations, strokes, starts, turns, and other related skills.
- Attends additional swim team dryland trainings through USA Swimming or the American Swim Coaches Association for dryland programming as necessary.
