Position Summary:
The Junior Swim Team Coach will assist the head coach/director of competitive aquatics and other swim team coaches to support the delivery of a high-quality, safe, inclusive, and competitive swim team program. Limited to working with 12 & under age groups only.

Essential Functions:
- Instructs stroke techniques (in and out of the pool) at swim practices as assigned.
- Assists coaching staff in supporting practices and other team activities (not swim meets).
- Maintains records such as attendance and progress reports.
- Promotes YMCA Character Development and Core Values.
- Follows all Branch and Association policies and procedures.
- Presents a professional image at all times.
- Keeps control of behavior of swimmers at all times, and if necessary, communicates behavioral issues to the Swim Team Coach or Assistant Swim Team Coach.
- Adhere and be on time to all scheduled practices
- Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any pool rules, policies, and guidelines at participants’ comprehension level.
- Communicates effectively to both children and their parents/ guardians.
- Must be able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the job including being able to get into the water for training and instruction.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment. Removing any hazardous obstacles and reporting unsafe conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
- Provide an emotionally secure environment for participants.
- Has the aptitude and attitude for coaching all levels of swimming ability.
- Gives excellent coaching instructions.
- Promotes aquatics and other YMCA programs.
- Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
- Communicates any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.
Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Quality knowledge of competitive swimming organizations, strokes, starts, turns, and other related skills or swim instruction experience is highly preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate swim stroke techniques.
- Obtain and maintain all required certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
- Additional certifications as required by the YMCA or USA Swimming.
