Position Summary:
Responsible for planning and implementing activities and distribution of meals for youth during the summer that reinforce making positive decisions and honoring the core values of the YMCA.

Essential Functions: 
  • Plans, develops, and implements weekday activities for program participants needs and interests, including kickball, soccer, and recess activities. 
  • Distributes snacks and meals while teaching proper nutrition. 
  • Travels into designated communities and work with children and families who arrive for programming. 
  • Demonstrates the characteristics of a positive role model. 
  • Works cooperatively with branch staff and location staff to ensure quality programing and correct marketing of activities including ensuring proper space, accurate supervision, needed equipment, and other activity needs have been secured. 
  • Maintains a safety-first, fun, and educational culture for all participants and co-workers.  
  • Accurately documents and maintains daily record of attendance of participating children served and the activity offered for the day 
  • Builds participant interest and forges relationships through offering activities and topics that are of most interest to participants  
  • Maintains the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment for the program through cleaning, organizing, and storing properly.  
  • Effectively communicates verbal (and written if necessary) reports to parents 
  • Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect law and follows proper reporting procedures. 
  • Responsible for leaving all activity areas as clean, if not better, than when the activity began. 
  • Ability to drive a van in a safe manner adhering to all traffic laws throughout the Dayton, Ohio region. 
  • Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up. 
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Previous work with children preferred.
  • Candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach children and have healthy nutrition knowledge.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, insurable drivers record according to the YMCA’s insurance carriers, and have reliable transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits, vendors, and suppliers, etc.
