Ramsey Solutions is looking for a highly skilled Managing Book Editor with a great attitude and ridiculously high work ethic. Does that sound like you?

Team You’ll Grow With: Our Content Development team writes and edits everything that goes out of the company, and we are looking to grow our Ramsey Press team!

Product You’ll Focus On: The managing book editor will work alongside Ramsey Press (the publishing arm of Ramsey Solutions), and be responsible for keeping our book manuscripts on track—from ideation to final manuscript—and delivering files to the printer on time, if not early. We publish books that are in the non-fiction, self-help/personal development and business/economics space.

What You’ll Do:
  • Work with our Ramsey Personalities to develop life-changing books that consistently hit national bestseller lists.
  • Finalize error-free content regarding CMS and Ramsey Solutions style guidelines, typographical errors, grammatical accuracy, and readability.
  • Contribute to ideation during discovery meetings and help shape the editorial flow for each book.
  • Attend writing meetings and coach collaborative writers, helping them learn the Ramsey way of making books.
  • Review early drafts of chapters from personalities and collaborative writers and provide feedback.
  • Copyedit book manuscripts or manage copy editors, collating editing onto master document for typesetter.
  • Perform the developmental edit for all books and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
  • Be an advocate for the content, ensuring consistency of voice and message, by reviewing copyediting marks and overseeing typesetting and proofreading as well as contributing to title brainstorming and marketing messaging.
  • Write sales copy, galley copy, and dust jacket copy.
  • Responsible for galley production.
  • Communicate deadlines and project updates to the department leader and Publishing leader.
  • Participate in project planning and scheduled meetings.

What You’ll Need:

  • 7+ years of book editing experience in a professional publishing house setting.
  • Deep familiarity with the publishing and editorial process from start to finish—and a willingness to unlearn a lot of what you know.
  • A care about creating exceptional transformational content as well as the craft of delivering it well.
  • An adeptness and appreciation for working collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and problem-solving throughout the book process.
  • Proficiency in editing on paper with standard editing marks and electronically with Microsoft Word’s “Track Changes” feature (familiarity with Adobe InCopy is a plus).
  • Highly familiar with The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) and/or AP Style, and provides a thorough, detailed review of all manuscripts prior to publication.
  • Healthy sense of humor is essential.
