JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Manager of Events position directly oversees the planning, set-up and execution of multiple large-scale, revenue-generating events and installations, including but not limited to our park-wide holiday lights experience (Zoo Lights), our summer concert series (Safari Nights), and others, including temporary exhibits and installations. Working in partnership with the Guest Services Manager of Events and other stakeholders throughout the Zoo, this position will ensure that Dallas Zoo events achieve a high level of guest satisfaction, prioritizing safety and an unsurpassed guest experience. Work is performed outdoors utilizing tools, ladders, forklifts, boom lifts and other equipment.  Work is performed on zoo grounds before, during and after business hours, including nights and weekends. 
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not intended to include all of the specific tasks which an employee in this position may be expected to perform. 
Supervises a team with varying levels of skills and experience in the set-up and execution of events utilizing a variety of materials, tools, equipment and vehicles. 
Offers responsive and courteous service to Dallas Zoo guests, staff and volunteers. 
Trains staff on tool and equipment use and proper installation methods.
Ensures safe practices are followed including the use of proper PPE.
Fabricates props as needed, utilizing a variety of power tools
Utilizes ladders for a large majority of the work. Operates a boom lift, fork lift and hand tools.
Follows event orders and plans for desired results. 
Maintains an accurate and running inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment related to event setup, including holiday lights, tools, and equipment. 
Maintains the orderly appearance of the work area and work carts, keeping supplies stocked. Cleans event areas as needed.
Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging guests.
Works safely among guests and animals.
Coordinates the work of Zoo vendors, ensuring that all contracted work is conducted in accordance with Zoo guidelines for safety, efficiency and guest satisfaction. 
Operate two-way radio and walkie-talkie, communicating with Zoo staff in a courteous and professional manner.  
Perform other duties as assigned in other guest service areas as needed. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or GED. 
Must possess ability to lift and move event equipment as needed.
Must be able to operate all necessary equipment to perform the job.
Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and associates. 
Must have excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills. 
Must be able to work as part of a team and independently to achieve positive results.
Must be able to lead work group to achieve positive results. 
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to walk, stand for extended time, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull bend.
Must be able climb stairs and ladders.
Must be able to move/carry up to 80lbs. 
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, early mornings and evenings.
Must be able to actively work in inclement weather. 
Ability to demonstrate a welcoming and cooperative demeanor toward guests, staff, and volunteers.  
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
