CytomX’s Internship Program is a paid 12-week summer internship for undergraduate and graduate students looking for exposure and meaningful work experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. We’ve designed our program to give interns an opportunity to learn hands-on project experience, develop new skills outside of the classroom and establish career networks and lifelong mentors.
Who You Are and What You’ll Do:
You are passionate about life sciences and making a difference to cancer patients, their families, and healthcare providers. The Protein Characterization Internship is an exciting opportunity to learn state-of-the-art analytical methods for protein characterization while contributing to the development of novel cancer therapeutics. The scope of this internship is the physicochemical characterization of the structure of engineered protein therapeutics using chromatography and mass spectrometry-based methods.
Job Responsibilities:
- Learn analytical skills to characterize large molecules such as proteins and antibodies through this internship including chromatographic and HPLC-based assays such as size exclusion chromatography (SEC), SEC-MALS and Mass spectrometry- based analytical methods.
- Learn how to maintain and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and assay performance as required.
- Document experimental work in electronic lab notebooks and communicate results with the team.
- Work on optimizing SLIMS data management processes.
- Assist in stability data trending.
- Assist in analytical method performance trending.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Recent graduate (B.S.), M.S. or Ph.D. student in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Structural biology, or related fields
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of laboratory experience or the equivalent
- Familiarity with chromatography techniques and/or mass spectrometry is desirable.
- Experience with protein characterization is a plus.

Compensation, Program Timeline, and Eligibility
- The expected salary range for this role based on the primary location for this position in California are the following: Bachelor’s Degree: $25/hour, Master’s Degree: $28/hour, PhD: $34/hour. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Program Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. We currently do not offer visa sponsorship to interns.
- Must be able to commit to the full 12 weeks’ time frame and expected to work 40 hours a week.
