CytomX’s Internship Program is a paid 12-week summer internship for undergraduate and graduate students looking for exposure and meaningful work experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. We’ve designed our program to give interns an opportunity to learn hands-on project experience, develop new skills outside of the classroom and establish career networks and lifelong mentors.      
      
Who You Are and What You’ll Do:      
You are passionate about life sciences and making a difference to cancer patients, their families, and healthcare providers. You will have the opportunity to gain skills in both translational science and computational biology, with a focus on immunology/oncology. Our groups use a wide range of tools and molecular analyses from in vitro and in vivo disease modeling to translate pre-clinical findings to clinical biomarkers. You will participate in developing an understanding of the mechanisms of action of oncology drugs in defined settings, to aid in the translation and development of biomarker strategies for clinical trials. You will be responsible for both wet lab work and computational aspects of data analysis, and will also be expected to present your results at the end of the internship.      
      
Job Responsibilities:       
  • You will focus on CytomX’s platform, and understanding of the proteolytic tumor microenvironment in relation to the mechanism of action of PROBODY® conditionally-activated antibody-drug conjugates. There will also be opportunities to be involved in projects with a component of image data analysis and digital pathology algorithms.
  • You will work with pre-clinical tissue samples, planning, preparing, and executing experiments.
  • You will conduct data analyses, troubleshoot technical problems, and contribute to establishing bioinformatic pipelines.
  • You will prepare data outputs, figures, and presentations from your results, and present an overview of your internship project(s) to a wider audience in a company meeting.
  • As this internship is shared between two departments, you will be involved in cross-functional meetings and have an opportunity to learn from multiple colleagues.
      
Minimum Qualifications:       
  • Actively pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree in a Biotechnology program, or entering into the last year in an undergraduate biological sciences degree
  • A strong desire and drive to learn and engage in scientific collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and integrity
      
Preferred Qualifications:       
  • Experience in basic lab techniques, such as pipetting, using balances, basic lab calculations and working with hazardous materials is preferred. Experience working with human tissue is a plus.
  • The candidate shall have knowledge of next-generation sequencing. Experience in DNA/RNA sequence data analysis is preferred. 
  • Capable of working with R or at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C/C++, or Perl.

Compensation, Program Timeline, and Eligibility       
      
  • The expected salary range for this role based on the primary location for this position in California are the following: Bachelor’s Degree: $25/hour, Master’s Degree: $28/hour, PhD: $34/hour. Offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Program Requirements      
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. We currently do not offer visa sponsorship to interns.
  • Must be able to commit to the full 12 weeks’ time frame and expected to work 40 hours a week.
