Civil Engineering Intern

Position Description

Civil Engineering Intern at Cushing Terrell. This is an in-person internship supporting our Civil Engineering team on real client projects.

What does this role involve day to day? You will support civil engineers in the design and plan production of roadway, grading and drainage, water, sewer, pavement, land development, and erosion control systems, building a base foundation of engineering principles and code requirements that build on your college coursework.

What will I create? You will help produce AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting and design documents, assist with quantities takeoffs and estimating, and research jurisdictional criteria for planning and engineering.

What does success look like in this internship? You will gain hands-on experience performing civil engineering calculations and designing site and infrastructure elements, participate in site visits before and during construction, and leave with a clear picture of what it means to work in the AEC industry.

Position Wage Range*

The expected wage range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications**

  • Completion of 3+ years of a civil engineering or related undergraduate program
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Bluebeam
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with team members across disciplines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications**

  • Exposure to roadway, grading and drainage, water, sewer, or land development design
  • Interest in erosion control systems or site infrastructure
  • Familiarity with quantities takeoffs or cost estimating
  • Interest in jurisdictional or municipal code research

Position Responsibilities***

  • Support civil engineers in the design and plan production of roadway, grading and drainage, water, sewer, pavement, land development, and erosion control systems
  • Assist with civil engineering calculations for site and infrastructure design
  • Learn and apply AutoCAD Civil 3D for drafting and design
  • Assist with quantities takeoffs and cost estimating
  • Research and apply jurisdictional criteria for planning and engineering projects
  • Attend site visits before and during construction with project leads
  • Gain exposure to the variety of project types and teams across the firm

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
