Mechanical Fire Protection Engineering Intern

You should be enthusiastic and excited by complex projects and sharpening your design skills. You will be the creative engine of our teams and our projects, developing a quality and unified design. You will be called upon to support architectural design work in partnership with talented designers, engineers, and business professionals across our 17 offices. Our creative process engages our high-profile clients and our project teams in achieving highly integrated and successful design solutions.
Internship
As a Fire Protection Intern you will assist the senior fire protection engineers and designers with the planning, design, and analysis of fire protection systems. You will be called up to learn and help design: fire sprinklers, fire pumps, high expansion foam, fire alarm and mass notification systems. You will be asked to:
- Use AutoCAD and Autodesk’s MEP Revit
- Complete system design, including piping, valves, and device layout of sprinkler and fire/alarm notification systems
- Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and fire pump design
- Analyze life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis
- Coordinate designs with other engineering discipline

Some of what you will be asked to learn:
- Heating / Cooling Load Calculation input
- Designing of refrigeration systems
- BIM modeling using Revit Software
- Drafting using AutoCad Software
- Plumbing design
- Other miscellaneous calculations for design

The majority of the time a person in this role will be sitting in an office with limited physical requirements. This may require individuals to bend, stretch, twist and reach. On occasion individuals will be required to visit a client site to perform site verifications and field surveys.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this position $17.00/hr to $22.00/hr and, is based on the location/s posted. If you are a candidate living outside of (this region/these regions), we still encourage you to apply as salary ranges may differ across states/cities/job markets.
Actual pay will be determined based on your years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). The position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
