Manager, Technical Accounting

Curriculum Associates is looking to hire a Manager of Technical Accounting and Reporting who will help oversee the accounting responsibilities of the company. This position will be based out of Billerica under a hybrid schedule and will oversee a team of 4 while reporting to the Assistant Controller.
The Manager of Technical Accounting and Reporting will be a key leader on the accounting team, involved with various technical accounting projects, including memos and analysis related to complex transactions, accounting policy research and implementation. You will also work closely with the team to ensure an accurate and timely month end close cycle in accordance with GAAP. This includes review of monthly journal entries and reconciliations, fluctuation analysis, and review of monthly results with senior leadership. Additionally, you will assist in developing an internal control structure including assessment of controls and documentation of processes.
Essential duties/responsibilities:
- Monitor, oversee and implement new and evolving accounting standards under US GAAP.
- Advise and/or prepare technical memos and analysis to support accounting treatment and other finance implications for complex areas.
- Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closes in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with GAAP.
- Lead drafting of financial statements and accompanying footnotes as required with year-end audit and debt compliance.
- Manage and coordinate the Company’s external audit.
- Oversee accounting for Company’s debt instruments including term loans and swap/hedges.
- Manage and coordinate third party consultants used for valuations, swaps, etc.
- Develop, lead, and motivate the team of direct reports.
- Assist with special projects and process improvements.
- Assist with cross training all Finance personnel on technical accounting topics relevant to the Company
Minimum qualifications:
- 5+ years including some public accounting experience; CPA strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage team of multiple individuals required.
- Comprehensive and current understanding of U.S. GAAP.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply accounting guidance and prepare formal, well-supported, accounting position papers and supporting analyses.
- Strong strategic, presentation, project management and communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, business group leaders and senior management.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills. Experience with Workday is a plus but not required.
- Ability and readiness to embrace and successfully drive/implement change.
- Process optimization focused; able to apply practical solutions and navigate through ambiguity.
- High-level of integrity along with the ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Team player; able to be flexible and collaborate with team on different projects and needs.
- Hard working, detail oriented and ability to motivate teams.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelors degree is required
- CPA is strongly preferred
Pay Range – This role’s range is $81,500-$139,500. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an
individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. This role is also eligible to participate in the company bonus plan. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.
