Senior User Interface and Interactive Designer

Curriculum Associates is looking for an inspired and passionate Senior User Interface and Interactive Designer to create engaging visuals and thoughtful, easy-to-use learning experiences for our groundbreaking i-Ready products. The ideal candidate is a conceptual and critical thinker who can transform ideas into products and demonstrate strong technical and organizational skills.
The Senior UI and Interactive Designer will dive deeply into Reading content creation for Grades 6-8 with a focus on:
Designing intuitive UI and building out product design systems.
Creating mood boards, wireframes, and prototypes.
Participating in user research sessions to help inform design decisions.
Working iteratively alongside the Senior Design Director and Product Team Designers, Curriculum Experts, Producers, Project Managers and Engineers to transform pedagogy and instructional materials into highly engaging and rewarding student experiences.

What you’ll do:
Design UI that’s delightful and engaging – supporting the pedagogical needs of the product, while balancing user needs and given business goals.
Create and iterate on a range of lo- to hi- fidelity prototypes and documentation – from sketches to detailed wireframes and pixel-perfect layouts – to communicate to various audiences.
Translate insights from our UX Research team into user-centered design decisions.
Collaborate closely with product teams through the UX design process (from research through implementation), and agile development teams to ensure proper implementation of designs.
Work closely with Sr Design Director and Design Leads to further develop the UI/UX vision.
Clearly articulate design decisions to various team members– from internal design teams, to cross-functional teams, to key stakeholders.
Assume responsibility for your task and schedule management, including frequent communication with Producers and Project Managers, to ensure deliverables are on-time in a highly deadline-driven environment.
Develop efficient practices to guide product design team, including: information architecture, interaction models, user flows, templates, UI pattern libraries, and other UI design deliverables.
Ensure design systems and UI/UX frameworks can scale across products as we continue to grow our Design team.
Establish, own, and maintain brand consistency – adhering to design guidelines, while building upon it where appropriate.
Assist in onboarding and mentoring junior UI/UX designers on the team.
In addition to focusing on UI, other product senses include:
Researching artists and visual styles, making directional recommendations to the product team, and following art from concept through completion, ensuring a high level of finish and polish.
Designing inclusive, user-centered experiences that are mindful of cultural relevance for students at all levels, and according to varying demographics such as gender, ethnicity, culture and age.
What you have:
3+ years designing engaging visuals, UI, and rich interactive experiences.
Experience creating innovative and thoughtful products that engage and delight its users.
Proven understanding of best practices for UI/UX design and web-based interactions.
Strong familiarity with WCAG 2.1 accessibility best practices.
Strong communication skills, and the ability to absorb feedback and iterate.
A great sense typography, use of color, space, and grid systems.
A highly detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills, and a proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects at once.
An enthusiasm for the exploration and consumption of all forms of media, apps and interactive software – with the vision to apply them to K-8 education.
Expertise in prototyping tools such as Figma (what we use), XD, Principle. Familiarity with Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator) and MS Office.
Basic understanding of HTML5/CSS or other web-based markup languages, understanding engineering frameworks and technical limitations.
A record of previous achievement shown through the demonstration of a thoughtful design process and tangible results. Portfolio submission required to be considered.
Experience designing for K-8 curriculum, children’s media, or other EdTech products
Proficiency in animation skills for UI (ie. using Principle, Anima, AfterEffects, etc.) that can be handed off and used by developers.
Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, and experience incorporating accessibility guidelines into experiences.
