VP, Assessment and Psychometrics

The Vice President, Assessment and Psychometric Operations is a leadership role with responsibility for the strategic direction and tactical operations of the Assessment and Psychometrics teams. This role supports the VP, Assessment, Psychometrics, & Research in leading the design, development, and operational processes for all assessments and related products at Curriculum Associates. This role provides leadership and oversight across assessment design, item development functions and processes, and psychometric research and operations. In addition, this role provides strategic direction for assessment products, budget oversight for two teams, and is responsible for supporting team member management and growth across multiple levels (entry-level to Associate VPs). Collaboration with leadership across Product Development is integral to the role to ensure successful execution of all assessment and psychometric activities in a growing company.
Impact you'll have:
- Ongoing management and support of a highly talented 45+ fully remote team, as well as advisors, vendors, and freelancers
- Provide strategic direction on innovation in assessment design, assessment development, and psychometrics, including but not limited to the research, design, and development of culturally and linguistically responsive assessments, the role of AI in assessment design and psychometrics, the role of big data in psychometrics, and the intersection of instructional and large-scale assessments (e.g., stealth assessment, computational psychometrics).
- Lead the implementation of principled assessment design across all assessment design, development, and operations
- Ensure that assessment design and psychometrics teams are working together coherently with each other and CA’s curriculum and instruction teams
- Provide oversight, program management and communications for all assessment design, assessment development, and psychometric activities, spanning across both routine operations and innovative assessment and psychometric research agendas
- Ensure on time, on budget, and in scope delivery of all CA assessment products
- Provide strategic direction for CA’s assessment product portfolio
- Strategic leader of process improvement as assessment development processes must evolve as technology evolves and our team grows
- Strategic leader of team members’ career development and overall team growth planning
- Cross team leader with technology platform team, product operations team, instructional teams, marketing, and sales
- Continual, forward-thinking planning around tools and systems to improve assessment quality and efficiencies, keeping Curriculum Associates assessments at the forefront of industry standards and innovation
- Model and build team culture of proactive communication, efficiency, inquiry, analysis, and problem solving
- Foster a team environment that embodies and demonstrates Curriculum Associates’ core values
Experience you'll bring:
- Multiple years successfully managing multiple, simultaneous large-scale assessment development efforts in computer-based testing
- Experience managing item and test development processes and teams for large-scale assessment programs
- Knowledge and experience of principled assessment design to support criterion-referenced interpretations, and how both differ from conventional test development philosophy and practice and resulting norm-referenced interpretations
- Demonstrated success in change management and scaling psychometric and assessment operations to meet new demand, including innovative and successful use of advisors, vendors, and freelancers
- Excellent communicator who can inspire team support for CA direction and decisions
- Deep knowledge of K–12 assessment market and current initiatives, competitive landscape, state and national policies and requirements
We'd love to see, although not required:
- Knowledge of Automatic Item Generation (AIG) methods and limitations as they apply to development of reading and mathematics assessments
- Experience conducting item alignment studies and overseeing development of test blueprints and item development plans
- Experience using tools like task models and Performance-Level Descriptors (PLDs) in support of item development and test design
Pay Range – This role’s range is $126,750. - $233,750. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. This role is also eligible to participate in the company bonus plan. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.
