The Engineering Program Management Office is an integral part of the Product Engineering team. Comprised of Solution Train Engineers, Release Train Engineers and Agile Leads/Scrum Masters, we are a passionate group of servant leaders supporting high-performing teams. We are seeking an experienced program management professional to work with teams on delivery of innovative instructional software and content for a rapidly growing education company committed to making classrooms better for teachers and students.


The Associate Director, Engineering Program Management is a highly visible role that will serve 30+ scrum teams, instructional content teams and also manage Agile Leads. As a servant leader, you will work alongside Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) events and processes, optimize value delivery, communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk and drive relentless improvement across the organization.

The impact you’ll have:

  • You will ensure effective operations across Scrum teams aligned to multiple Agile Release Trains (ART) to ensure high-quality business value is delivered.

  • You will manage cross organizational progress, progress of features and capabilities for visibility and transparency

  • You will manage risks and dependencies across teams of teams; escalate and track impediments

  • You will ensure dependencies and risks program wide are understood and proactively managed

  • You will provide input to management on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks

  • You will work with Product and Engineering leadership, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment

  • You will champion SAFe adoption across the organization; meet teams and individuals where they are and facilitate continuous improvement

  • You will identify and pursue opportunities to fine-tune and improve organizational execution; recommend enhancements related to new and/or existing workflows based on a broad view of the organization and a Lean Agile mindset

  • You will hire, coach and support team members, some of whom may report to you.

  • Coach teams in applying Agile values, principles, practices, tools and techniques.

Who we’re looking for:

  • A deep understanding and the ability to apply both the theoretical and practical aspects of agile development

  • Experience in a complex project and program management role with 10+ years leading Scrum teams; 6+ in management

  • Proven experience coordinating feature delivery across 30+ Scrum teams

  • A servant leader and strong communicator who can:

    • Listen and support problem-identification and decision making

    • Encourage an environment that values mutual respect, openness, and courage

    • Persuade by influence rather than authority

    • Empower teams to be owners of their products and processes

    • Communicate with all levels of the organization, from individual contributors to leadership

  • Work with teams to interpret data and identify opportunities in efficiency.

  • Partner with external vendors to support ongoing initiatives. 

  • Understand implications (and trade-offs) of process, reliability, scalability, operational costs, ease of adoption by organization.

  • Help support and mentor team members, making hiring decisions, invest in career growth, and position members for team success.

  • Stay current on industry trends and development methodologies related to rich Internet applications, mobile, and UX.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, coaching and facilitating career growth of Agile Leads

  • A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a computer science, information technology, or an equally technical discipline or Master’s and 8+ years of working experience

We’d also love to see, though not required:

  • Program Management / Scaled Agile Framework experience in an organization with primary revenue streams derived from software product development and sales.

  • CEC, PMI-ACP, Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe

  • Atlassian JIRA & Confluence administrative experience

More about this role:

Location: North Billerica, MA (remote or hybrid 2 days in the office) or remote US working eastern time zone hours.

Starting date: ASAP

Pay Range – This role’s range is $110,500. - $196,500. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that Curriculum Associates considers in making compensation decisions based on our Compensation Philosophy. Actual base pay within that range will vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, prior experience and relevant skill sets. At Curriculum Associates, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances for each case. This role is also eligible to participate in the company bonus plan. The Company recognizes that minimum wage varies by location and will ensure all compensation decisions comply with applicable state and local laws.
