Summary

Responsible for the sales and purchasing of all used equipment in and out of Carolina CAT territory.  Responsible for profitability objectives for Used Equipment Division. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversight of all used equipment inventory to balance needs for what is available to sell as well as expected return on assets in stock.
  • Oversight of trade-in values provided to assist with the sale of new equipment while insuring the proper maintenance of inventory values appropriate for market trends.
  • Maintenance and distribution of used equipment inventory data to assist sales people in order fulfillment.
  • Maintenance of relationships with wholesalers for use in proper flow of used inventory in and out of the Company.
  • On-going review of equipment market trends for use in balancing short term rental fleets that support market needs.
  • Regular review of long-term equipment lease activity to highlight pending lease ends that may support used and or short term rental fleet additions
  • Ownership of P&L
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has supervisory responsibilities for inside and outside sales representatives, used equipment sales administrative staff, equipment inspectors, and demonstration operators.

Education and/or Experience

  • Four-year undergraduate degree, preferably with a Business Management major.   
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an equipment sales manager.
  • Managerial:  Experienced at hiring and developing staff, good hiring skills, practices, track record.  Able to assemble and perpetuate a team that works effectively and harmoniously.
  • Delegatory management style providing extensive authority and decision-making latitude to staff, an empowering type of managerial philosophy and practice.
  • Understands and successfully applies process improvement skills such as 6 sigma and lean. 
  • A team player, cooperative, collaborative, willing and able to work easily and synergistically with others. Unselfish, thinks corporately, not departmentally. Able to perform easily in an environment where consensus is the norm. Modest ego needs, democratic, able to put the group’s success ahead of personal agenda

Must be able to meet company requirements for auto insurance coverage

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in some work environments is occasionally loud.
