Mainframe Telecom Consultant

Responsible for supporting online end users and performing batch file transfers.

Job assignments demand a well rounded IBM mainframe skill set.  Technical support responsibilities traverse all Projects codes and require efforts in systems analysis, problem resolution, and the development of system specifications and associated documentation.  These duties require knowledge of IBM mainframe software programs and utilities:













    Connect Direct






Provide 24-hour technical support to the production and operations group by diagnosing critical file transfer problems, developing solutions and applying corrective actions in a timely manner.

Research and respond to production file transfer failures and online MIAP communication anomalies. 

Trouble shooting efforts extend to identify and resolve operations problems for both production and development environment systems.

Continuously monitor, evaluate and/or conduct research into the technical operations for quality and performance of application software to improve the process or enhance performance (reduce costs).

Testing is conducted on external interface applications which are integrated into batch processes and utilize teleprocessing protocols such as TCP/IP, SFTP and Connect Direct.

Coordinate development and testing with external customers in this process, which involve complexities of file transfer between a multitude of platform entities such as mainframes and distributed systems
Provide assistance to Information Assurance (IA) personnel in the creation and maintenance of System Interconnection Agreements (SIA) between the Application and external communication entities.

Communicate and interact with other professionals at various organizational levels on a daily basis in both verbal as well as written communication.  Duties may require presentations, briefings and project reviews involving alternative approaches for consideration to management and/or other personnel. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong Mainframe Experience. 
  • Must be a United States Citizen and able to pass an extensive background check and obtain DoD Public Trust Clearance.
  • A degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Ability to work with clients to understand their needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Professional presence is required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Endeavor administration.
  • Experience with Configuration Management administration.
  • Capability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with customers and other vendors.
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with data standards and policies.
  • Possess motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that demonstrate value.
