Position Summary 

Crystal Dynamics is looking for an outstanding and talented Visual FX Artist to work with our development team on creating world class action adventure games. The successful VFX Artist needs to have experience with particle editing, texture creation and real-time materials and will have both a strong creative and technical background. This VFX Artist with be able to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a schedule, while actively participating in technical and artistic problem solving, and will be able to partner with multiple disciplines to meet project specific needs. They will be able to quickly understand custom toolsets and deliver assets within the confines of real time engine constraints and programming demands.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Create quality textures, materials and VFX mesh assets 
  • Confidently work with visual scripting logic and material systems 
  • Take VFX projects to completion with or without concept art while maintaining a given style guide 
  • Communicate with Artists, Designers, and Programmers to work through artistic and technical challenges 
  • Work with the Lead VFX artist and production to estimate and schedule tasks

  • Fundamentals of art and animation 
  • Understanding of work within a real-time environment and its limitations 
  • Motivation to solve problems  
  • Ability to meet strict production deadlines 
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills 
  • Work as both a member of a development team and individually with minimal supervision 

Essential Requirements 

  • Professional experience working in VFX within video game development  
  • Experience with particle creation in a 3D application or real-time game engine, preference Unreal Engine 
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to evolving pipelines 
  • A demo video showcasing VFX art 

Bonus Skills & Experience 

  • Highly proficient in Unreal Engine
  • HLSL shader creation experience 
  • Experience creating fluid simulations in Houdini, Embergen, or other 3D software for making real-time flipbook textures 
  • Experience developing for the current consoles
