The Sourcing Specialist will play a crucial role in identifying and securing high-quality suppliers and materials essential for our cannabis goods manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent negotiation abilities, and a deep understanding of sourcing strategies and supply chain dynamics.

This position is onsite in Stayner, Ontario. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Identification and Evaluation: Research and identify potential suppliers for various materials and components required for cannabis goods manufacturing.
  • Evaluate and qualify suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Utilize and maintain a database of qualified suppliers and assess their performance regularly.
  • Sourcing Strategy Development: Coordinate sourcing strategies to ensure a consistent and cost-effective supply of materials.
  • Analyze market trends, pricing, and supply chain dynamics to make informed sourcing decisions.
  • Collaborate with procurement and production teams to align sourcing strategies with manufacturing needs and production schedules.
  • Supplier Negotiation and Relationship Management: Assist in negotiations of terms and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, quality standards, and delivery terms.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable supply and address any issues that arise.
  • Monitor supplier performance and conduct regular reviews to ensure adherence to agreed-upon standards and service levels.
  • Pricing Management: ERP Integration: Utilize the company’s ERP system to manage and update pricing information for materials and supplies.
  • Ensure that pricing data is accurately reflected in the system and aligns with negotiated supplier agreements.
  • Pricing Analysis: Monitor and analyze pricing trends and cost changes through the ERP system. Assess the impact of price fluctuations on overall procurement budgets and supply chain costs.
  • Cost Reconciliation: Reconcile supplier invoices and pricing discrepancies using the ERP system. Ensure that pricing adjustments are accurately processed and documented.
  • Reporting: Generate and review pricing reports from the ERP system to track cost performance, identify savings opportunities, and inform decision-making.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure that all sourcing activities comply with industry regulations and company standards, including cannabis-specific requirements. Work closely with quality assurance teams to verify that materials meet quality and safety standards before acceptance.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues with suppliers and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Cost Management and Reporting: Analyze and monitor sourcing costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Assist in preparing regular reports on sourcing activities, supplier performance, and cost savings to management.
  • Assist in budget planning and forecasting for sourcing-related expenses.
  • Inventory and Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with inventory management and supply chain teams to align sourcing activities with inventory needs and production schedules.
  • Adjust sourcing plans based on changes in demand, production schedules, or supply chain disruptions.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure effective coordination of sourcing activities with overall business operations.
  • New Projects and Initiatives: Support new projects by sourcing materials and suppliers in accordance with project requirements and timelines.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of suppliers for new product launches or process improvements.
  • Manage procurement deliverables related to new projects, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of material needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment of sourcing activities with overall company goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to enhance sourcing strategies and operational efficiency.

You’ll need to have:

  • Post Secondary Education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or relevant certifications (e.g., CPSM) are a plus.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a Sourcing Specialist or buyer role or similar role in procurement, preferably in the cannabis industry or a regulated sector.
  • Strong knowledge of sourcing principles, supplier evaluation, and negotiation.
  • Familiarity with cannabis industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems and pricing management within such platforms.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in sourcing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
