As the Senior Manager, Engineering & Maintenance you will be responsible for the Engineering and Maintenance Departments in accordance with company policies and procedures, providing strong leadership, strategy and execution, project management skills, and technical knowledge. You will be accountable for the design and development of production facilities, systems, equipment and processes to support Product Development and Production Operations that are fully qualified and GPP/GMP compliant as required. You will provide for a safe work environment and meet all environmental regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures for the effective management of major projects. You will Manage a department of Engineers who execute all new product launch engineering, installation and startup, as well as continuous improvement and efficiency. This includes equipment/automation for new and existing product lines, industrial engineering for facility readiness, and process engineering as it relates to assigned “pod projects”, and scaling new product development. Insourcing and cost savings projects will be critical areas of focus for this role. Additionally, responsibilities will include CapEx budgeting for facility maintenance, automation and general improvements.
 
This position is based on site out of our Stayner, Ontario facility.
 
What you’ll be doing:
Engineering
  • Work closely with the product development group to scale up product innovation to manufacturing. This includes project planning, process development and set up, and scoping and execution of automation as required
  • Intimately understand all current product lines and manufacturing processes and develop holistic automation strategies/process improvement plans for the factory, prioritized annually based on ROI. Make recommendations to management and execute the automation strategy as required
  • Conduct IQ/OQ/PQ requirements for all launches at the manufacturing site. Be familiar with all engineering launch requirements and make recommendations to streamline those requirements to drive agility
  • Understand and execute the installation and commissioning of all equipment, utilities and structures required for the automation and process strategies to be completed successfully
  • Provide engineering support to R&D, Production and Facilities Engineering to investigate failures/performance deficiencies and follow through on opportunities for process improvement/cost reduction
  • Manage day to day engineering and maintenance issues that occur on the production floor
  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets and schedules to support engineering projects including design, installation and commissioning
  • Determines impact of new processes and products to existing and new automation.
  • Modify designs accordingly to drive manufacturing and labor efficiencies
  • Conduct value analysis and cost reduction analysis on all production processes all the time
  • Ensure projects success by keeping projects on schedule through strong leadership and communication while evaluating technical data
  • Provide technical support to Project Engineers daily regarding manufacturing process, mechanical solutions, and installation
  • Provide all required managerial duties as they relate to a department of Engineers and Tradespeople. This includes scheduling and performance guidance and objectives
  • Develop and monitor Capital and Operational Expense budgets for site and engineering projects
 
Plant Facility & Equipment Maintenance
  • Ensure reliability, availability, and continued operations within the factory, including uptime for current capabilities and equipment within production.
  • Understand, implement, monitor and maintain environmental parameters for specific product formats
  • Plan, implement, and direct plant facility and equipment maintenance to meet production needs
  • Collaborate with Operations, R&D/PD, Quality and other key stake holders to coordinate daily work orders and preventative maintenance activities
  • Oversee and ensure overall facility maintenance – interior and exterior
 
You’ll need to have:
  • B.Sc. in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 7+ years supervisory experience with minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial/production setting, preferably pharmaceutical or food industry (Cannabis)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Well-developed report writing skills; business correspondence, and procedures manual, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers
  • Excellent leadership, project management, problem-solving and organizational skills
