As Lab Technician in Chemistry & Technology, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and execution of projects focused on scaling chemical synthesis and optimizing primary processing for inhalable products, such as milled flower and pre-rolls. This position involves collaboration with senior scientists to scale processes from benchtop to production while integrating new technologies to improve product quality and production efficiency.

This position is based out of Stayner, ON.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support in Chemical Synthesis and Process Optimization: Assist in developing and optimizing chemical processes for synthesizing, extracting, and purifying compounds. Provide hands-on support during benchtop experiments and scale-up activities.
  • Cannabis Biomass Optimization: Directly involved in the optimization of primary processing of cannabis biomass, focusing on producing high-quality milled flower and various pre-roll formats. Work closely with product development and production teams to ensure consistency and quality of end products.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, organize, and present data from experiments and production trials to senior team members. Ensure accurate documentation and inventory traceability for compliance and efficient tech-transfer activities.
  • Technology and Equipment Management: Help evaluate and implement new technologies and equipment within the lab and production environments. Support the integration of innovative tools and methods to enhance product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with departments such as Engineering, QA/QC, and Operations to ensure smooth project execution and compliance with industry standards. Provide logistical support for shipping samples and materials.
  • Lab Maintenance and Safety Compliance: Maintain a clean and safe working environment by performing regular housekeeping duties and adhering to safety protocols. Assist in managing lab equipment and supplies.  

Your environment:

  • Dynamic Lab and Office Setting: Primarily lab-based with some administrative duties. Expect to spend around 85% of your time in laboratory settings, with the remainder at your desk.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and perform tasks for extended periods. Occasional lifting of materials up to 40 lbs. may be required.
  • Schedule: Regular daytime shifts from Monday to Friday with potential overtime to support project needs.
  • Travel Requirements: This role requires occasional domestic travel within Canada and potential international travel. Candidates must be legally eligible for travel as required for project support, team collaboration, and professional development. All travel will adhere to current health and safety guidelines.

You’ll need to have:

  • Education: BSc or equivalent technical diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years previous laboratory experience, preferably with a focus on chemical processing or product development. Experience in the cannabis industry is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and data management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is essential. Must be a team player capable of working independently on assigned tasks.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and new challenges.
  • Attention to Detail: Committed to producing high-quality work with an excellent attention to detail.
  • Availability for Overtime and Technical Support: Willingness to work overtime and provide technical support if required.
