The HR Generalist plays a critical role on the team by providing hands-on HR support to employees and leaders across operations. This role focuses on employee relations, HR administration, and supporting HR programs and initiatives. It is a blend of operational excellence and proactive partnership, ensuring HR practices are consistent and compliant.
The ideal candidate is a resourceful and detail-oriented HR professional with a strong grasp of Canadian employment legislation. You thrive in dynamic environments where collaboration, discretion, and adaptability are key. You will serve as a trusted advisor to both employees and managers, offering sound guidance and practical solutions. Your ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively makes you a vital contributor to the success of the HR function.
This position is based out of Stayner, ON.
What you’ll be doing:
Employee Relations
- Responsible for end-to-end support of assigned client groups, comprised of hourly and operations leadership
- Manage all day-to-day HR inquiries providing timely, accurate and easily understandable answers to all levels within the organization, helping team members navigate on-line tools and Workday to better support employee self-service
- Manage employee relations issues, including leading internal investigations and documenting processes thoroughly providing recommendations for resolution to the Director, Global Human Resources Partner
- Coach operational leaders and provide recommendations or resolutions to employee concerns.
- Collaborate with Operations leaders and Production Supervisors on all HR initiatives and identify opportunities to drive consistency and efficiency across HR policies, processes, and systems
- Participate in, as appropriate, employee disciplinary meetings, and terminations
- Build highly collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and employees establish yourself as a credible, “go to” expert in HR matters
Recruitment & Onboarding / Offboarding
- Own all onboarding and offboarding activities to ensure a smooth transition in and out of the organization, working with managers to clarify and facilitate their critical responsibilities in these activities.
- Own all temporary workforce new hire onboarding and orientation, including coordination of paperwork, scheduling, and delivery of orientation content.
- [Canada Operations Only] Lead ongoing hourly recruiting efforts to support company growth, including internal promotions / lateral movements and fixed term contracts
- Manage employee work permit process and follow up
- Own and maintain relationships with employment agencies to ensure the selection of the best candidates for temporary workforce conversion
- Conduct exit interviews and submit to Senior HR Team for review and discussion, analyze data for common themes and or areas of concern to bring to senior leadership
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate and timely employee data by processing and documenting personnel actions such as new hires, promotions, transfers, job changes, and terminations across HR systems, file feeds, and personnel files ensuring data integrity
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal employment standards.
- Assist with compliance requirements including report generation and analysis, maintaining records, reports, and logs and assists with HR audits
- Support continuing HR process improvements as well as implementation of new technologies to ensure efficiency and better employee experience
- Partner with Senior HR Leaders to ensure policies and processes flow effectively and efficiently across HR teams
- Document, maintain, and communicate processes to stakeholders, managers, and employees
- Collaborate with the Benefits team to support leaves (including maternity/parental/LTD and statutory leaves), and related reporting and safe and timely return-to-work and workplace accommodations.
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
- Strong background in employee relations, including conflict resolution and negotiation
- 3–5 years’ experience in an HR generalist role (employee relations focused)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment a MUST, preferably in a fast-paced, small to mid-size company with employees working remotely across Canada and USA
- Thorough working knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Experience using HR technology (Workday, CultureAmp, etc) and comfort leveraging Excel to track and analyze data and support decision making
- Excellent people skills and high emotional intelligence
- Adaptability and solid critical thinking skills, capable of anticipating and responding quickly to changes within the organization
- Solid communication skills both written and verbal
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships across the organization
- A high level of integrity; trustworthy with sensitive and confidential information
- Forward thinking mentality with respect to HR processes and systems, creating a climate for change
- Solid conflict resolution skills / problem-solving mentality
- Experience with Workday is an asset
Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 (Stayner, Ontario*) per year
The actual compensation offered will be based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, applicable market data, internal equity, and business needs, and may vary within the stated range. This role may be eligible for bonus, incentive compensation, or other variable pay in accordance with applicable company plans.
