As the Product Development Technician, you will be responsible for executing internal projects and initiatives related to product development. The product development technician will work closely with other members of the product development team to drive products forward from concept to implementation. There is a key emphasis on conducting benchtop development work and supporting scale-up and manufacturing trials in an organized manner. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, energetic, and able to work as part of a team and at a fast pace.
 
This position is based out of Stayner, ON.
 
What you’ll be doing:
  • Conduct internal product development experiments and prototypes for cannabis products (this includes all product formats such as flower, pre-roll products, edible products, and cannabis concentrate products).
  • Collect and organize data from experiments to present to the rest of the product development team
  • Ensure inventory traceability and administrative documentation of all cannabis product being used for product development activities as well as tech-transfer and scale-up activities.
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials (non-cannabis products) used in cannabis formulations and preparation
  • Participate in R&D stability for Product Development, conducting R&D stability for durable dates, shipping conditions, real-time and accelerated conditions for all products and formats.
  • Analyze raw materials and primary/secondary packaging materials for formulation and shipping compatibility
  • Submitting internal and external lab samples for required testing
  • Working with logistics to ship cannabis and non-cannabis samples to relevant stakeholders and partners
  • Conduct process development experiments, tech-transfer, and scaleup working closely with the production team and 3rd party manufacturers
  • Assist with conducting sensory panels; support panelists in answering formal descriptive analysis and/or consumer sensory aspects of product development
  • General housekeeping and cleaning of product development space, equipment, and tools
 
Your Environment:
  • Primarily lab-based with some administrative duties. Expect to spend around 85% of your time in laboratory settings, with the remainder at your desk.
  • Capable of adapting to various temperature environments Requires consistent periods of standing, bending, and crouching in a laboratory setting and occasional lifting of materials up to 40lbs
  • Regular daytime shifts from Monday to Friday with potential overtime to support project needs

  • Travel Requirements: This role requires occasional domestic travel within Canada and potential international travel. Candidates must be legally eligible for travel as required for project support, team collaboration, and professional development.
 
You’ll need to have:
  • Minimum technical diploma in be Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics1-2 years’ experience in product development in the consumer-packaged goods industry is an asset
  • Experience in the cannabis industry is beneficial but not mandatory Team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of creating and fostering positive, cooperative relationships at work
  • Team player capable of working independently on assigned tasks and objectives and seeking input from the team as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is essential
