KING’S SCHOOLS MINISTRY PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Purpose Statement: Building resilient disciples of Christ through Christian education
POSITION SUMMARY
The School Counselor will attend to the social and emotional development of 7th and 8th grade students. Provide and teach a counseling curriculum for Jr. High students. Consult with teachers, parents and staff to support students, as well as provide support to all Jr. High programs. Participate as an active member of the school staff, the counseling team, and pertinent parent organizations and adhere fully to the stated purposes, standards, policies and procedures of CRISTA Ministries and of King's Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(General overview and may include all details of responsibilities)
Academic:
- Provide support to students, parents, and administration around scheduling and course selection while considering appropriate rigor and high school requirements.
- Assist in providing support and planning for students on academic probation when needed.
- Serve as a liaison between administration, teachers, parents, and students regarding learning, student growth, or other relevant interventions.
- Provide support for Student Plans for Success including accommodation facilitation and communication.
- Assist in overseeing and managing the administration of MAP Testing.
Mental /Emotional:
- Provide leadership for the school community regarding best practices in mental health programming and resources.
- Guide relevant student programming and education (examples may include conflict resolution, personal strengths, goal setting, empathy, communication, stress, etc.)
- Advise and provide resources for students and parents regarding learning, mental and emotional health or other relevant referrals.
Social:
- Plan and implement programming that supports positive and efficient transitions to high school for students and families.
- Support student admission through the interview process for incoming Junior High students.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues regarding standards alignment, student support and programming, and student growth.
- Assist in planning and overseeing 8th Grade Retreat at the beginning of the year and Great Escape at the end of the year.
Other:
- Provide oversight of students during lunch.
- Attend Junior High Admin Meetings, Building Team Meetings, Staff Meetings, and Staff Devotions.
Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
CHRIST CENTERED
- Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
- Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
- Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
- Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
- Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
- Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
- Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
EDUCATION
- Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- Five years working in the school counseling field.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
- Maintain professional certification and endorsements as required by King’s Schools and the State of Washington.
- CPR/First AID/AED Training.
SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
- Microsoft Suite, including Teams
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
- Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. (WAC 388-113)
