Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate, and experienced Gameplay Programmer, to join the team behind Total War, Alien: Isolation and Halo Wars 2, to create unforgettable game experiences on a new project. Our studios are based in Horsham, West Sussex.

Working with the team, you will look to produce efficient and effective solutions to engineering problems, building on top of Unreal Engine.

Key Responsibilities 

As a Senior Gameplay Programmer, you will be working with a cross-functional team of programmers, designers, artists, QA, and brand. Using your technical expertise, you will work collaboratively with design to engineer the creative vision and provide alternative solutions in the face of technical limitations.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Use your commercially proven coding skills and expertise to develop gameplay within the Unreal Engine
  • Maintain, help enforce and champion engineering standards across the programming team
  • Be involved in reviewing existing implementations, and gameplay ideas, and be proactive in suggesting new ways to create engaging experience for the player. The early stages of each project will involve fast iteration of ideas and prototyping
  • Be an active participant in helping determine the most efficient way of proving or disproving gameplay loops
  • Collaborate and problem-solve with the wider game development team on the project (designers, programmers, artists, brand managers and testers) to bring features from conception to reality
  • At all stages of development, consider function in a live environment and the importance of test. 
Knowledge, Skill and Experience 

Essential
  • Experience in using Unreal Engine on a full development cycle
  • Extensive Professional C++ programming experience
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment
  • Self-directed and focussed attitude
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable effective collaboration across the project
  • Enthusiastic about modern development techniques.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Development experience across the following is useful to have, but can be taught to the right candidates
    • Experience of fast iteration prototyping
    • Experience of Agile practices
    • Experience in DevOps and CI/CD related technologies
  • Experience of mentorship and leading people (In a professional or non-professional capacity).
