- Act as primary wastewater treatment system operator for oil/water separation and pH adjustment. Including, but not limited to, daily monitoring of treatment system performance, replacing chemicals, ensuring proper stock of chemicals, coordinating sludge pick-up, regular cleaning, and other tasks necessary to maintain proper operation of the treatment system.
- Perform periodic wastewater sampling in accordance with the facility’s Industrial Users Permit or to satisfy preventative maintenance tasks.
- Manage accumulated production waste (non-hazardous and hazardous) daily from compounding, packaging, maintenance, the labs, or IT.
- Track hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, prepare wastes for shipment, assist with coordination of waste shipments, load waste trucks, and ensure proper storage, labeling and management.
- Ensure compliance with RCRA and DOT regulations as it relates to waste generated by the facility.
- Maintain the discard cage and the hazardous waste storage areas in orderly, compliant condition always.
- Perform EHS inspection, hazardous waste storage room inspections, spill kit inspections and maintenance, SPCC inspections, equipment calibrations and other EHS maintenance activities daily, weekly, or as required.
- Participate on the HAZMAT Team, the First Aid Team and the EHS Team.
- Assist Manager, EHS with day-to-day responsibilities of EHS Department.
- Perform training on EHS topics, as needed.
- Coordinate lab waste transfer to proper storage.
- Manage recycling containers to prevent spills, leaks or damage.
- Participate in near-miss and incident investigations to determine root cause and assist in developing preventive and corrective actions.
- Participate in risk assessments and job safety analysis.
- Special project and other work-related duties as deemed necessary.
- High school diploma.
- General knowledge of industrial workplace and associated environment, health and safety policies, practices, and regulations.
- College attendance is desired.
- Experience with Industrial wastewater treatment by means of chemical and physical processes.
- Familiar with dissolved air flotation (DAF) system operation.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment chemistry includes Chemically enhanced separation, acid/base chemistry, coagulants and flocculants, and solubility and precipitation.
- Mechanical ability to assist with repair and maintenance of pumps and motors.
- Hazardous waste management per US EPA’s Resource Conservation and Recovery ACT (RCRA) regulations.
- Department of Transportation hazardous material shipper certification.
- Current First Aid/AED/CPR, Train the Trainer, and HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain.
- Must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of processes for continuous improvement such as six sigma and lean management systems.
- Familiarity with machine guarding and control of hazardous energy standards.
- Experience with confine space identification, permits, entry and rescue.
- Knowledge of fall prevention and protection methods, aerial lift and ladder safety.
- Powered industrial truck operator and ability to complete train the trainer course.
- Knowledge of ergonomic concepts.
- Capable of wearing tight fitting respirator and completing 24-hour hazardous material technician training.
- Experience operating sampling equipment to include sound level meters, gas meters, and sampling pumps.
- Must always present a positive customer service attitude.
- Must be always professional in both appearance and attitude, able to work under deadlines, handle confidential information, give close attention to detail and accuracy, exhibit initiative, be dependable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Operate specialized equipment associated with wastewater treatment, various instruments, and hand tools.
- Computer knowledge: Microsoft Outlook email, Microsoft Office preferred.
- Operate powered industrial trucks safely and efficiently.
- Able to stand for periods of time on concrete floors, climb steps, ramps, and ladders in a manufacturing environment.
- Wear personal protective equipment, safety glasses/goggles, protective clothing (gloves, lab coat, full protective suit), and respiratory protection (full face respirator or PAPR).
- Must be able to participate on the HAZMAT Team.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. on a periodic basis.
- Able to manually move materials in containers up to 55 gallons in size.
