Business Analyst


Job Summary:

The Business Analyst is responsible for various internal and external financial reporting, data visualization tool ownership, and ad hoc analyses related to financial performance of funds and asset subsets. The position is a great opportunity to learn about real estate, particularly in the areas of performance analytics, valuation, and reporting in a fast-paced, high growth environment.  

Key Accountabilities and Activities:

Power BI Reporting & Maintenance         

  • Create complex SQL queries to extract and transform data from various systems into useable formats for Power BI
  • Build, monitor, and maintain existing and new Power BI dashboards
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify key performance indicators for each area of business and how to best visualize to show trends and outliers in Power BI dashboards
  • Ensure data integrity in collaboration with internal development team and third-party consultants
  • Continuously enhance existing processes and discover opportunities to increase efficiency via automation

Financial Reporting         

  • Prepare data tapes for asset management, investor relations, and lenders
  • Maintain various financial models for valuation and financial reporting to asset management, investor relations, lenders, and executive leadership
  • Assist with preparation of internal and external-facing presentations

Analytics and Planning   

  • Perform analysis on portfolio financial performance, determine key operational drivers, and propose actionable recommendations
  • Monitor key performance indicators, fund metrics, and valuation. Benchmark platform performance with industry key players
  • Monitor macroeconomic indicators, national and MSA-level real estate supply and demand, and emerging trends in housing market

Key Metrics:      

  • Power BI usage and dashboard accuracy
  • Timeliness of monthly/quarterly deliverables

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other quantitative or technical fields. Prior coursework or exposure to real estate and/or data analytics preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience as business/financial analyst, data analyst, or business intelligent analyst
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel. Working knowledge or willingness to learn VBA.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries
  • Prior experience building and maintaining dashboards in Power BI
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good quantitative judgment, time management, and attention to details. Thrive in high growth and high ambiguity environment.
  • Working knowledge of R/Python is a plus
