Position at Confluent Inc

Confluent is pioneering a fundamentally new category of data infrastructure focused on data in motion. Have you ever found a new favorite series on Netflix, picked up groceries curbside at Walmart, or paid for something using Square? That’s the power of data in motion in action—giving organizations instant access to the massive amounts of data that is constantly flowing throughout their business. At Confluent, we’re building the foundational platform for this new paradigm of data infrastructure. Our cloud-native offering is designed to be the intelligent connective tissue enabling real-time data, from multiple sources, to constantly stream across the organization. With Confluent, organizations can create a central nervous system to innovate and win in a digital-first world.

We’re looking for self-motivated team members who crave a challenge and feel energized to roll up their sleeves and help realize Confluent’s enormous potential. Chart your own path and take healthy risks as we solve big problems together. We value having diverse teams and want you to grow as we grow—whether you’re just starting out in your career or managing a large team, you’ll be amazed at the magnitude of your impact.

About the Role:

We are looking for a seasoned engineer to join our developer productivity charter. In this role, you will bring the vision of transforming our developer experience for the entire engineering team to life by enabling our high-performing engineering team that solves complex challenges at scale. As an engineer in developer productivity, you will work closely with all engineering teams and other key stakeholders to design, architect, and build out our secure, multi-tenant, software development lifecycle tool suite to enable delivery of new business opportunities across Confluent Cloud (including Connect, kSQL/Flink, Kafka and more). You will help drive end-to-end technical delivery from developer onboarding to our internal operations in support of our customers. You are not confined to the status quo and you leverage your expertise in Cloud-native, large-scale distributed systems to help take our platform to industry leading.

What You Will Do:

  • Own the overall Software Development Lifecycle -- including, but not limited to infrastructure, security, operations, etc.
  • Partner across engineering and other key stakeholders to build and drive the overall roadmap for developer productivity.
  • Deliver high impact to the business by driving important technical initiatives in areas comprising (but not limited to) security, developer tooling, CI systems, Artifact Management, architectural direction, and major component refactor across organizational boundaries
  • Provide feedback into the overall architectural design, and delivery of architecture to determine when functions should be part of a common developer platform versus service unique.

What You Will Bring:

  • Minimum of 8 years of software development
  • Technical expertise in large scale systems engineering or distributed systems
  • Expertise in Cloud Native technology including networking & security
  • Expertise in multiple programming Languages and IDEs (java, go, python, etc.)
  • Experience running production services in cloud
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and management using effective communication and collaborative techniques
  • Experience interviewing to ensure a high technical hiring bar and experience mentoring junior talent.
  • A track record of removing friction, driving improvements across the development stack with a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience. An advanced degree in computer science is preferred
