About the Role:

The Data team at Confluent is building the central nervous system for the company, helping Confluent become more data driven and connecting actions to insights. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager for our Data Engineering team. As a Sr. Manager, Data Engineering, you will lead and grow a high performing team of Data Engineers managing end to end flow of data from ingestion to analytical data marts. The manager will lead the team to design, develop , and maintain our data warehouse, implement and configure tooling, manage data pipelines and transformations using CI/CD principles, & adopt governance best practices.  The ideal candidate has a strong mix of technical skills, people management experience, and business acumen. 

What You Will Do:

  • Recruit, manage, and develop a team of Data Engineers
  • Coach and lead teams to build, configure, and deploy data models and data pipelines to integrate data from various sources to deliver clean, reliable, and high-quality data assets
  • Own the quality & reliability of data and treat data as a product
  • You will work with a team of program managers, business stakeholders, data architects, and data scientists to build single source of truth data products
  • Experience building high volume data pipelines
  • Design, architect, and maintain the data warehouse infrastructure to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
  • Implement tools for data modeling, data transformation, and orchestration of data pipelines.
  • Develop and manage data pipelines, ensuring data quality, reliability, and scalability.
  • Implement tooling & process for data discovery, lineage, and governance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure that operations across the data engineering are managed well including managing on-call responsibilities and addressing high-priority issues as they arise

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on designing and implementing data warehouses, data modeling, ETL processes, and data transformation pipelines.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing a data engineering team
  • Knowledge of data governance principles, data quality management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead a team to deliver high-quality results.
  • Proficiency with cloud based data infrastructure, including major cloud providers, BigQuery, and modern data stack components.
  • Strong expertise in SQL, Python, and data engineering tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with CI/CD principles and tools (e.g., Git, Terraform, Docker).
  • Experience with Airflow orchestration and familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
  • Familiarity of Kafka/Confluent Cloud, DBT (Data Build Tool)
  • Experience working with agile methodologies leveraging Jira
  • Ability to participate in resource planning processes based on defined organizational plans.
