Position Summary:  

Conair is looking for an experienced Product Quality Engineer to join the growing Engineering team in Stamford, CT.  The Product Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing quality process.  This person will oversee the quality control process of the product line to identify, prioritize, and document reliability trends to resolve quality issues and support the improvements of product reliability and customer satisfaction.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Evaluate and analyze a variety of products companywide in various states of condition and locations that are involved in legal claims against any division of Conair. Determine whether the product is a Conair product. If it is a Conair product, determine what role – if any – it played in the incident/claim. Determine the root cause of any issues found by doing joint destructive inspections with all necessary parties.
  • Travel to locations (labs, law offices and etc.) to evaluate and analyze products when the claimant refuses to supply the unit to the company.
  • Be the liaison with outside experts and attorneys to supply required information and documentation to assist them in defending claims/lawsuits.
  • Represent the company in depositions and court testimony if it progresses to that level.
  • Test and evaluate products received thru Risk Management in lab and issue findings to assist Risk Management in defending claims.
  • Support Risk Management and Legal on technical issues to assist them in resolving claims and lawsuits.
  • Monitor findings for trends and identify areas that require changes to improve and/or eliminate issues/claims. Determine if/when a recall is warranted.
  • Interact with Engineering, QC, Marketing and any other appropriate departments to discuss findings and make corrective actions, changes or improvements to products to minimize/eliminate future claims.
  • Follow CPSC to determine if any Conair products are in their sites and help be proactive in conforming to any future requirements or changes they require,
  • Get involved in peer groups and safety organizations to network and follow the pulse of the said groups/organizations.
  • Attend seminars and training symposiums, take continuing education courses and webinars to remain current on current and future safety requirements and issues so they can be applied to Conair products.

 Essential Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in the consumer goods/household goods industry.
  • Good knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Good knowledge of quality control, raw materials, manufacturing processes, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of consumer goods products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • This is a “hands on” job; candidates should be comfortable using diagnostic tools. 
  • Familiarity with testing product to ensure it meets internal engineering specifications and UL standards.  
  • Possess a “safety first” mindset when testing product.
  • Must be okay lifting/transporting heavy boxes up to 30lbs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert level analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter possessing strong initiative and teamwork.
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suites

Environmental Factors:  

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally for business (% if needed)
  • We currently operate on a hybrid schedule; candidate must be willing to come into the office 50% of time.
