1 - Overall Role/Job Description

Waring, a leading manufacturer of high-end commercial appliances globally and a division of Conair Corporation, has an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Project Engineer.  This position reports to the Sr. Project Engineer, Waring division and will be located in Torrington, CT.

We are looking for a talented project engineer. As a project engineer, you will facilitate the design and manufacturing of exciting and revolutionary products. You will be working closely with the Product Development/Marketing team to create industry-relevant products that meet company specifications.

Design and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical commercial kitchen appliances based on marketing developed customer requirements. Develops products from inception to production and supports the active base of our products. Coordinates completion of engineering deliverables.  Accountable for successful completion of assigned projects

2 - Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop prototypes and mock-ups of product ideas
  • Prepares testing protocols, test reports, and in-depth analysis of products
  • Coordinating with the product development team to finalize product ideas
  • Provides support to other business units by answering technical questions
  • Work closely with off-shore engineering and manufacturing partners (Asia)
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create products
  • Use Creo to develop models and drawings of new products
  • Create detailed documentation to track project development milestones
  • Extensive travel to Asia, to vendors to witness Engineering builds, pilot runs and production starts. (up to 25% of time, with extended time periods - 2 to 3 week intervals).
  • Participates in the planning process of new product introductions to assure successful new product launches.

3 - Skills/Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Experience in designing and developing electrical appliances through all phases from concept engineering to mass production while maintaining schedules and cost goals
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

– steel and plastic material properties and selection

– design for manufacturing

– universal and induction start motors

–  solenoids & electric solenoid valves

– heating elements

– thermal transfer and isolation

– UL / International standards and test methods, consumer product safety and liability.

  • Understanding of regulatory regulations (UL/ETL/FDA/NSF)
  • Injection molding, diecasting and sheet metal design
  • Hands on experience crafting simple proof-of-concept models
  • Technical curiosity
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
  • Proven communication skills, multitasking and problem solving are critical to this role.
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents
  • Project management experience
  • We require a BSME degree, along with work experience within the electric appliance field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in appliance design engineering. Prior supervisory experience is not required.
  • Proficient in Pro/Engineer
  • Engineering analysis & design skills


  • BSME with a basic understanding of electrical engineering
  • Experience in working with offshore suppliers and knowledge of sanitation standards would be an advantage.
  • Experience with 3 D printing is a plus

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally for business (% if needed)
  • Must be Covid-19 vaccinated.
  • We currently operate on a hybrid schedule; candidate must be willing to come into the Torrington, CT office 50% of time.
