Job Title: Risk Management Specialist

Ministry/Department: Finance Ministry

Reports to: Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management

Status: Full-time, exempt

Supervisory Role: No

Objective

This position is responsible for partnering with the Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management with ongoing analysis, administration and the annual renewal of the insurance programs for The Church of Eleven22®, Hope’s Closet® Thrift and The Retreat Center.

This position will perform related risk management functions including helping to identify and assess factors that could contribute to risk or liability for the organization. The Risk Management Specialist also partners and collaborates with ministries to promote risk management best practices through the organization.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management with insurance renewals such as gathering and evaluating exposure data such as vehicle/driver schedules, property and equipment values and other data necessary in the renewal process
  • Partner with company’s insurance brokers to ensure that secured insurance policies meet the company’s ongoing business needs and align to risk tolerance
  • Serve as main point of contact (POC) for insurance-related questions between the business and insurance broker to ensure requests are being met completely and in a timely manner
  • Establish and monitor the lifecycle of certificates of insurance, ensuring they align with business needs and required risk coverage
  • Complete annual insurance audits
  • Manage all property claims obtaining needed documentation to process, submit and report liability and property claims
  • Partner with Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management to co-develop an enterprise risk management program. This includes evaluating policies, processes, tools and techniques that guide and support the church’s risk management activities
  • Analyze and assess areas of potential risk by evaluating industry, business and financial data trends to determine impact on organizational activities and risk exposure
  • Collaborate and aggregate data from multiple sources to provide a comprehensive assessment
  • Create reports, summaries and/or process documents to display results surrounding rules, regulations and compliance
  • Provide recommendations on process improvements when gaps have been identified
  • Support compliance with policies and regulatory requirements
    • Creating and implementing audits throughout the year
    • Compiling and presenting results of audits to help identify areas of improvement
  • Collaborate with ministries to promote risk management best practices
  • Complete special projects or other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance/Accounting, Business or related field strongly preferred
  • Professional designations or licenses in Insurance or Risk Management preferred
  • Minimum of four years of experience working in related industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of enterprise risk management framework, operational and financial data analysis and non-profit experience preferred
  • Any combination of education, training and working experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work may vary on based on church needs.

The church has several big events, (“All-Skates”) throughout the year to help further the mission of Eleven22. These events are mandatory for all staff to be in attendance and may vary, depending on the vision cast for the current year.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Ministerial Exception

The ministerial exception furthers the purposes of the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses of the First Amendment by barring legal claims against church bodies by staff members who perform religious functions. All church pastors are subject to the exception, but a formal ministerial credential is not required. While there is no rigid formula to determine other church staff members that qualify, various factors are considered to determine which staff members are subject to the ministerial exception (please see handbook).
