Position at CNO Financial Group, Inc.

CNO’s IT Intern program is designed to provide college students practical, hands-on experience in IT within a public insurance company while working as part of a Scrum team for the duration of the program. 

As an IT Intern you will work with the IT Strategy and Operational Excellence Team to deliver value to the organization. The Intern team will utilize Agile/Scrum principles to understand, prioritize, and deliver outcomes that matter to CNO Financial. Areas of interest include Data Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Analysis, Security, and Agile Delivery. Business demand will drive the opportunities available to the Intern Team.

As an IT Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Engage with Business/IT stakeholders
  • Perform research, including preparation of questionnaires
  • Update, modify, develop and work to automate reports
  • Produce and participate in the design, analysis and presentation of work outputs
  • Data mining, data validation, and data architecture, and data analysis
  • Collaborate with business, solution architecture, testing and development team
  • Responsible for creating product backlog items, work items, and managing work execution.
  • Expected to attend and participate sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews/product demos, and sprint retrospectives.

This is a paid internship, at competitive rates.

The CNO Financial Intern Program gives students an opportunity to learn about CNO and network while doing important work for the organization.  We sustained our internship program, hosting interns during the summers of 2020 and 2021, despite the global pandemic!

Previous IT Internships have provided the following experiences:

  • Data Analytics - provided business access to define what the data is, how to assemble it in a meaningful way and what simple trends & initial insights have been found. Understanding these simple trends and insights can assist the business in building reports that will capture the domain's behavior.
  • IT Operational Excellence and Strategy - Service Delivery Metrics: designed metrics, created dashboards, built presentations, produced competitive analysis ‘and reviewed/reported upon trends.
  • Process Automation - documented process flows and automation coding using Pega, and Automation Anywhere. The RPA BOT Builder worked closely with Business Owners to document current state of the desired automation opportunities. Additionally, the BOT Builder shadowed the RPA Architect to ensure that coding followed Standards and Guidelines for optimum performance and monitoring during production.
  • Business Analysis/Systems Analysis– worked on requirements elicitation, analysis and creating requirements documentation using visualization and modeling. Facilitated requirement review sessions with multiple stakeholder across the organization, partnered with Architects to design and implement technical solutions, and worked closely with the development team to ensure requirement acceptance criteria was met.
  • Security – Evaluated existing processes regarding corporate adherence to security protocols, and adoption of CNO security rules and standards. Reviewed documentation and on-boarding protocols or the Security team.

This is a joint statement from the 2021 IT Interns regarding the IT Internship program at CNO.

  • “At CNO, you will work together with other IT interns as a Scrum team to deliver incremental value over two-week sprints. Work requests can come from the various IT sectors and are filtered through a product owner who assigns it to the Scrum team. Potential work requests can come from the application delivery, cybersecurity, data management and delivery, technology services, and strategy and operational excellence sectors. CNO offers potential training and experience using various tools/applications including Tableau, Splunk, Automation Anywhere, PEGA, Visio, and Archimate.” – 2021 IT Interns

Qualified candidates for an IT Intern position will have:

  • Progress towards a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, computer science or information systems related discipline
  • Current status as a rising junior or rising senior, with anticipated graduation date between December 2022 and December 2024.  CNO is striving to bring 2 rising seniors and 2 rising juniors into the program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Availability to work 10-12 weeks during the summer
  • Proficient with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and as a motivated team player
  • Ability to be organized and prioritize work; seek direction as appropriate
  • Good interpersonal & consultative skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Self-motivated, organized and effective time management skills

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must currently possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.  Please note that the Company does not intend to sponsor work visas with respect to these positions or to provide these positions as OPT or CPT.

CNO Financial Group is pursuing a hybrid working model.  Our associates will have access to come into their affiliated Office (Carmel, Chicago or Philadelphia) up to 2 days/week, and work from home at least 3 days/week.  To ensure accessibility to our corporate campuses, we ask that candidates reside within a 90 minute drive of the position location OR plan to live within a 90 minute drive of the position location upon graduation.
