Position at CNO Financial Group, Inc.

Under technical direction, the IT Data Analyst will be responsible for assembling data in a meaningful way based on guidance for data quality, data relationships, and the available data sources across enterprise domains. This role starts to build knowledge of source systems and representative domain data to draw meaningful insights that support data quality programs and/or policyholder sales, service or profitability metrics and other data initiatives. The data analyst primarily uses analytical skills to create requirements and designs that support business initiatives requiring enterprise data assets.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Analyzes existing data translation and process requirements, and documents necessary translation rules.
  • Gathers data transformation, integration, and quality requirements.
  • Uses standard document templates to capture designs and mapping specifications.
  • Researches data and processing issues and provides input into data quality improvements.
  • Collaborates primarily with data team to develop detailed specifications, gap analyses, and potential process change requirements for data transformations.
  • Cooperates and interacts with project team members and contractors to take positive action and accountability for assigned work.
  • Grows business relationships and domain knowledge that are important to the success of projects.
  • Performs analysis and data profiling to inform data requirements, data quality, data collections, etc.
  • Assists in root cause analysis related to production support and project requests.
  • Investigates data anomalies and communicates back to the data stewards and data owners.
  • Develops skills in preferred enterprise data presentation tools (such as Office suite, report or dashboard).

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with business intelligence reporting and dashboards.
  • Knowledge of structured data concepts such as entities, classes, hierarchies, relationships and metadata.
  • Knowledge of database management system (DBMS) physical implementation, including tables, joins and SQL querying.
  • Ability to combine data from multiple sources when needed for the analysis.
  • Able to understand and recognize the use cases, business purposes, and fitness of data during analysis.
  • Collaborative, cooperative and team oriented Shows a bias toward action and is willing to learn.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including management, peers, and other departments.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks within expectations while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in a related discipline, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Some experience in a corporate work environment preferred.
  • Previous financial industry or data experience is a plus.
