ENTERPRISE RISK & STRATEGY ANALYST

 

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

Working closely with all CMPA departments, the Strategy & Program Management (SPM) department leads nimble and adaptable enterprise management processes. The core functions include strategic planning and strategic issues analysis, annual planning and performance management, enterprise risk management, and program management. Market intelligence and research and evaluation influence each of these activities.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Foresight, the Enterprise Risk & Strategy Analyst is responsible for analyzing a wide range of issues and initiatives of strategic importance to CMPA, using data and intelligence derived from a combination of internal and external sources. The incumbent uses the insight gained through this activity to prepare briefing notes, reports, presentations, and other materials that help to ensure both management and Council have the information needed to make informed business decisions

 

The Enterprise Risk & Strategy Analyst takes a lead role in the execution of the Association’s enterprise risk management (ERM) program. This requires working with others across the Association, including management, to identify and analyze opportunities and threats that could impact the achievement of the Association’s strategic objectives and to align and integrate ERM activities with strategic and annual planning, performance measurement, and corporate reporting. The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring and identifying ERM improvement opportunities, and providing advice, recommendations and other input, based on the feedback received from internal stakeholders and by maintaining current knowledge of industry best practice.

 

Given the corporate nature of this role, the incumbent establishes and maintains working relationships across CMPA to ensure a collaborative and effective approach to team and departmental deliverables. The Enterprise Risk & Strategy Analyst works closely with analysts and other staff outside the department to obtain data and information and to participate in corporate and cross-departmental projects and working groups.

 

POSITION ACTIVITIES

Enterprise Risk Management

  • Leads the development and maintenance of risk assessments for management review and Council approval
  • Leads the analysis of strategic threats and opportunities facing the organization, including the identification and evaluation of mitigation and development strategies and/or contingency plans
  • Summarizes insights from risk analysis and clearly communicates analytical findings in a cohesive format for management and Council
  • Facilitates the work of ERM with management and staff to ensure effective identification, assessment, and reporting of risks as well as the corresponding development of risk indicators and appetite, and provides advice and recommendations based on risk management best practice and subject matter expertise
  • Identifies current best practices in ERM and other program enhancement opportunities, analyzes these practices for their relevance to CMPA, and leads their implementation

 

Strategic Planning

  • Supports the development of CMPA’s strategic plan, working closely with staff, management, and members of Council
  • Collaborates with other analysts to support assessing outcomes and aligning processes, resource planning, and key objectives with overall strategy
  • Provides insights and supports preparation and delivery of a range of documentation on corporate strategy to management, staff, and Council

 

Market intelligence and Environmental Assessment

  • Leads the departments environmental scanning, monitors industry trends, and gathers market intelligence
  • Works collaboratively with others across CMPA, sharing research and intelligence to enhance the collective understanding of issues and concerns in the business environment while also identifying opportunities to enhance overall scanning activities
  • Creates informative and actionable reports on key environmental assessment findings
  • Summarizes complex issues into an easily understandable manner for management and Council consumption

 

Enterprise Management

  • Supports integration and alignment of enterprise management functions, including strategic and annual planning, program and project management, performance measurement, corporate reporting, and enterprise risk management
  • Supports dissemination and consistent use of ERM in enterprise management functions
  • Supports maintenance, enhancement, and use of an effective enterprise management infrastructure (e.g., processes, accountabilities, and enabling tools/templates)
  • Executes program and project management activities for designated initiatives, including project plan development and management, analysis, and reporting
  • Provides project management guidance, support, and tools to staff

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Connects and builds relationships with management and staff across the Association including providing advice, recommendations, and other input relevant to the work they perform
  • Continuously updates knowledge in the evolving fields of ERM, Strategic Planning, and related Enterprise Management functions
  • Acquires knowledge about new tools and trends to innovate work processes and inform better outcomes

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 4 - year university degree in Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field of study
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBA, MPA, etc.) is required
  • Risk Management certification/designation or working towards one
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in ERM, strategic planning, and/or other related enterprise management functions
  • Demonstrated strategic and critical thinker with experience using quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing relevant policies, legislation, and laws that may impact an organization and its stakeholders
  • Experience with leading projects
  • Experience with ERM programs and reporting regimes
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment to achieve organizational goals
  • Experience working with senior decision makers and other subject matter experts
  • Understanding of Canadian and international healthcare and medical liability systems is an asset
  • Experience in the healthcare policy and/or legal environments is an asset

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent analytical skills are essential
  • Ability to balance theory and practical reality is essential
  • Excellent computer skills for word processing, presentation, and research working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Knowledge of project management principles
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions and decision-making using strong written/verbal skills to present complex issues in an understandable manner
  • Ability to understand the strategic level view and draw connections between organizational considerations and external factors is essential
  • Ability to draft reports, backgrounders, presentations, and briefs
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, possessing good judgement and initiative to set and achieve goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English are essential

 

POSTING DETAILS

  • Job Type: regular full-time opportunity
  • Salary Range: $97,900 to $131,000 – this role is classified as level 09
  • Skills assessment: selected candidates may be required to complete a skills assessment
  • Location: Primary Remote - you can work from a home-based office the majority of the time, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (up to 1-2 days per week)
