FINANCE BUSINESS ADVISOR

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

The Finance department supports the CMPA’s mission and goals by safeguarding the Association’s assets through accurate and timely recording and stewardship of financial transactions. Financial Planning & Reporting is responsible for corporate financial reporting. The team substantiates funds spent against budgets, reviews financial data and transactions, provides support to departments across the organization, and prepares the annual budget for Council approval.  The team prepares financial reports that deliver financial insights and analysis, facilitate decision-making, and drive business strategy.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Finance Business Advisor provides integrated financial insights and strategies that support the unique objectives and operational requirements of the Association as well as specific designated client groups.  The Finance Business Advisor bases these strategies and insights on analysis of operational business performance, environmental trends, and industry dynamics.  As a member of a collaborative team, the Finance Business Advisor also contributes to the financial planning and analysis that supports decision making at the Association. The incumbent will investigate emerging issues and trends to identify the financial drivers of the Association.

 

The Finance Business Advisor is responsible for fostering partnerships with the senior management team through the provision of professional and proactive financial and budgeting advice and guidance. The incumbent will work in close partnership with various teams both within the Association and externally to ensure delivery of professional financial analysis, reporting, support, and strategic recommendations.

 

POSITION ACTIVITIES

  • Partners with business leaders across the organization to establish annual budget and quarterly forecasts for departmental costs including salary and headcount
  • Prepares various comprehensive financial and headcount reports and dashboards for management and Council to support decision making and operational planning
  • Provides strategic advice for all budgeting, financial planning, and analysis processes to support the unique financial circumstances and the specific goals of both designated client groups and the Association as a whole
  • Provides analysis and delivers insights that link financial analysis and reporting to business performance
  • Provides financial information, tools, analysis and insights to client leaders and senior management, challenges their thinking, influences change, and assists them to make informed decisions that help drive business strategy
  • Improves financial reporting to enhance the understanding of business performance
  • Builds partnerships and maintains strong relationships with senior management
  • Advises Manager of emerging trends, potential risks, and provides forward-looking solutions
  • Working with both internal and external stakeholders, analyzes financial results, investigates unusual variances, and determines root cause considering both financial and non-financial elements and provides recommendations

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with a concentration in Business, Finance, or Accounting
  • Accounting designation is required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience partnering with the business, providing value-added financial analysis and proactive advice to management to improve business performance
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise financial applications, including system administration functions
  • Experience working with senior management, staff, and a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience with Workday and Adaptive Planning a strong asset
  • Experience with Power BI and reporting tools an asset

POSTING DETAILS

  • Job type: This is a regular full-time opportunity.
  • This posting is for an existing vacancy.
  • Salary range: $102,600 to $137,300 – this role is classified as a level 9.
  • Location: Hybrid - Primary Remote. You can work from a home-based office the majority of the time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (1-2 days per week). If you prefer, you can choose to work out of the CMPA office in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake.
