CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA

Safe Medical Care Learning (SMCL) is central to the CMPA’s vision of being a learning organization. The department’s core activities include design, development, delivery, and evaluation of CMPAs Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs and learning products as well as accreditation, administrative, and production support of these products and services. Digital learning products contribute to a blended learning approach and are readily accessible through the modernization of the CMPA website. The department utilizes state of the art pedagogical science to share knowledge and improve practice of members and their teams while also contributing to the internal learning needs of CMPA staff, leaders, and governance through internal collaborations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accreditation Specialist provides strong organizational and professional expertise in support of accreditation processes, educational needs assessments, and continuous quality improvement within the Safe Medical Care Learning department.

Reporting to the Lead, Learning Outcomes, the Accreditation Specialist manages the department’s accreditation activities, ensuring compliance with College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) standards. The specialist also leads comprehensive needs assessment initiatives to identify educational gaps and opportunities, supporting data-driven decision-making and strategic planning at all levels of the department to enhance the quality and impact of educational programs.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

Accreditation Activities:

  • Oversees SMCL’s accreditation process, ensuring adherence to relevant Canadian accreditation standards.
  • Leads the compilation, completion, and submission of accreditation applications for CPD products and programs within appropriate timelines.
  • Monitors the status of accreditation applications and provides SMCL stakeholders with routine updates through clear lines of communication and accountability.
  • Develops core documents, tools, processes, policies and filing systems for CPD accreditation activities.
  • Collaborates with the Project Specialist, to ensure that the accreditation calendar is updated with the latest submission, approval, and renewal dates.
  • Acts a primary contact for departmental accreditation activities, builds and maintains relationships with key accreditation organizations in Canada.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with accreditation standards and quality criteria of Canadian certifying bodies.

Needs Assessment Activities:

  • Leads and coordinates the needs assessment process for new and existing educational products in accordance with Canadian accreditation standards.
  • Organizes and coordinates cross-functional teams to conduct needs assessments, ensuring alignment with CFPC and RCPSC requirements.
  • Liaises with internal teams and other relevant stakeholders to gather necessary data and insights.
  • Ensures the timely and effective completion of needs assessments to support accreditation applications and product reviews.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to project teams on needs assessment requirements from an accreditation perspective.
  • Develops and maintains processes, checklists, forms, and resources to the development and implementation needs assessment strategies.
  • Offers training and support to staff on best practices for needs assessments and accreditation compliance.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 4 year Bachelor Degree preferably in Education, Health Sciences, Healthcare Administration or an equivalent field of study.
    • 4-6 years of experience in accreditation processes within the healthcare or educational sector.
    • In-depth knowledge of CFPC and RCPSC accreditation standards.
    • Background in conducting needs assessments for educational programs is an asset.
    • Demonstrated project management experience, including coordinating cross-functional teams and managing timelines and deliverables.
    • Experience in providing advice and guidance on accreditation and needs assessment processes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and French is required.
  • Excellent project coordination and organizational skills with a high attention to quality and detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, including CMPA leadership, members of Council, CMPA members, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise judgement and make decisions while working with minimal supervision.
  • Superior interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to deal with multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively approach problem solving.

 

POSTING DETAILS

  • Job Type: Regular Full-Time
  • Salary Range: $81,600-94,900– this role is classified as level 8.
  • Skills Assessment: Selected candidates will be required to complete skills assessments evaluating verbal and written proficiency in both French and English.
  • Location: Hybrid – Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of the time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (1-2 days per week). If you prefer, you can choose to work out of the CMPA office in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake. This position cannot be performed fully remotely.
