Mortgage Technical Writer (Policies and Procedures)

The Technical Writer works under limited supervision, the Technical Writer is responsible for and participates in projects involving the research, analysis, development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of policies and procedures documentation and other writing projects necessary to support all departments and to effectively meet operational and regulatory requirements of the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES, includes the following responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information for greatest reader comprehension as it relates to internal Company communications and policies and procedures.
  • Generate innovative ideas for content and workflow solutions.
  • Review and/or copyedit content developed by other members of the team or other departments, when necessary.
  • Ownership of companywide Corporate Weekly Memo – Gathers the content from relevant departments, edits content, and distributes memo weekly.
  • Interviews subject matter experts, observes work processes, and communicates with business leaders and staff to research and analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedure, and forms documentation.
  • Develops policy, procedure, and forms documentation, in accordance with Company documentation development standards.
  • Prepares, packages, and presents draft documentation to management, compliance/risk, subject matter experts, and appropriate lines of business for review and publication approval.
  • Secures, assembles, and archives accumulated documentation and approvals for regulatory compliance purposes.
  • Conducts and attends all relevant meetings associated with job function and completes tasks correctly and on time.
  • Develops policy and procedure publication communications, including change summaries.
  • Performs all related policy and procedures publication functions, as required.
  • Maintains cohesive working relationships with all levels of management, lines of business personnel, and team to effectively interface on all projects and deliverables.
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training and writing experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in mortgage lending industry.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience writing/formulating policy and procedure documentation in the mortgage lending industry.
  • Excellent operating knowledge of mortgage lending industry/banking industry, including correspondent lending, retail lending, and wholesale lending processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of policy, procedure, and forms documentation.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and process mapping skills, with knowledge of and experience in the application of policy and procedures standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Advanced computer software proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software applications, such as Visio and Adobe Acrobat Pro, used in performance of job duties.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to compose materials such as detailed reports, work-related manuals, publications of large scope or impact, and create presentations associated with job duties.
  • Ability to understand complex problems, and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
  • Effective decision-making skills, sound judgement, and strong technical aptitude.
  • Strong organization and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment on large and small projects, with changing priorities.
  • Strong self-starter and self-motivator, with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to work with general supervision, while performing job duties.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion.
  • Team oriented.

 

PHYSICAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This role operates in an ADA compliant office environment, utilizing typical office equipment and tasks including computer work. The position may involve partial stationary positions and moving throughout the day. Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines is required.

 

Base Compensation Information – For residents of the states of CA & CO, and for New York City + other areas requiring disclosure:

CMG pays a competitive base which ranges from $80,000 - $85,000. Factors that affect base salary may include: Technical Writing experience, overall knowledge, number of years worked in mortgage industry, types of roles performed, computer skills, experience specific to working with mortgage lenders, and education.
