About the Job
This role is a specialized role within our professional services organization comprising Systems Designers, Systems Integrators and Project Managers.  The professional services organization delivers business value to our end users, channel partners, and for OTTO Motors.  The team is responsible for design and integration of fleets of OTTO autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and software at our customer facilities. In this role, you would be responsible for taking concepts created by our sales and applications engineering teams, and working through the detailed design of the solution; primarily focused on the mechanical and process aspects of the solution such as layout design, tooling design, facility equipment interface, customer processes and throughput analysis.  In addition to collaboration with various professional services team members, you would also collaborate with our sales, applications engineering and simulation team.  Furthermore, you would be a contributor to defining our product requirements and is an influencer of our product roadmap.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Understanding customer requirements and ensuring clarity of all requirements prior to detailed design;
  • Consulting with applications engineering during the requirements and concept definition process; documenting/updating the requirements when needed
  • detailed design of AMR systems using OTTO Motors products to meet the customer requirements; including workflow definition, layout modifications and review, mechanical design and review of attachments, attachment tooling and facility equipment that our AMRs interface with
  • Creative solutioning of challenges encountered in the project design phase
  • Utilize Excel/Google Sheets to review customer data, evaluate fleet size, cycle time analysis
  • Support the discrete event simulation process by verifying the validity of all the inputs required for simulation and working with the customer as well as the internal sim team through the data analysis
  • Project planning for the deliverables and work packages you own;
  • Effectively document, present, and explain the proposed OTTO solution to the customer team members
  • Be a trusted technical resource for customers and partners throughout the design phase of a project
  • Visit customer sites to evaluate material handling operations, processes, existing equipment, and floor layout constraints 
Additional responsibilities:
  • Authoring new product requirements based on the lessons learned from your design and commissioning activities;
  • Working with the systems engineering team to improve project/department tools, processes, and working relationships with other departments;
  • Ability to travel for business within North America, Europe and Asia; ~20 - 30 % travel commitment
Required background:
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of experience working within manufacturing/industrial automation
  • Mechanical design experience
  • University degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Manufacturing engineering
  • Experience working directly with clients/end-users
Required skills:
  • Planning and organization (how to approach and solve a problem, work breakdown to achieve the end goal, etc.)
  • Strong communicator, verbal and written
  • Self-motivated and organized with a keen eye for detail
  • Able to identify and communicate the value of OTTO’s proposed solution to the customer
  • Understanding of complex integrated systems, material handling, mechanical and industrial equipment and processes
  • Experience creating, editing and reviewing CAD models/drawings; SolidWorks for 3D CAD and Draftsight for 2D CAD
  • Experience organizing and analyzing data using MS Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Experience preparing engineering design documentation and reports
Bonus points:
  • Experience working with automated vehicles (i.e. AMRs or AGVs)
  • Experience with Simulation software (Digital Twin, Event or Process Simulation)
  • Experience with Jira and Epicor
  • Experience working on projects involving material handling automation, Conveyors, Palletized lines, Automated Storage and Retrieval
